The best Way to tell if its a wheel bearing is to jack your car up wheels off the ground and try to move the tire left and right ! placing your hands at 9 and 3 oclock you should not have any play if you do its a wheel bearing ! given the symptoms that you have provided this is likely the case !

the faster you go the louder the noise ( that's a wheel bearing )

If your bearings are bad it will get louder with speed and not just RPMs. It sounds like driving over a rumble strip constantly while on the highway. Try to change revs in your car while parked to see if it's an actually anengine problem.
By ther way, what is the deal with these Audi wheel bearings? Luckily my dealer replaced my rear bearings for free when they went bad in my S4 in less than a week. I had a 1998.5 A4 2.8Quattro have its rear bearings go out on me too.

yep, I had the same problem hyper. Mine actually came back, and it is speed related, but mine only does it when its under engine braking ... It almost sounds like a stick stuck in the wheel, hititn the spokes, but Ive checked out everything under there and cant see anything wrong...
