Default I'm back!

So i'm back, i had an 02 A4 1.8t a little while back, got cut off by a women driver and totaled it, went to a bmw M3, now i need something safer again so im coming back to Audi. after i made it out of my head on collision with both of us going 35-40, without a scratch, i want another audi. my M3 is a fun little car, (its a 1997) very fast too but i read about this guy on bimmerforums.com who hit a wall going 25 and he says hes 'critically injured' so that made me feel very unsafe driving my car, especially with winter coming. I'm looking at S4's now cause they're an awesome looking car. so i have a few questions:
since i havent had either car (bmw or audi) long enough to test the reliability for both, which is more reliable? my M3 is 10 years old and had a few problems in the 4 months ive owned it, but so did my audi in the 5 months i owned it. but i dont know about S4's since they're V6's...??
and whats the speed comparison? My m3 handles like its on rails but its rear wheel drive and i want someone AWD again. the M3 was fast too, a lot faster than my A4 (mods still in sig from a while back) so would an S4 be faster than my M3? its an inline 6 with 240hp, and weighs around 2900-3000 pounds.

thanks!

I just want to know how a high school kid can afford these cars! damn! I just bought my first car last novemeber and im 24!!
to your point..
If $$ isn't a problem, go with the s4. it's faster and the AWD in the winter is very very key. I had zero problems last winter. It's a little different than my dad's saturn, lol. problems will occur with the s4, if u beat on it, more problems will occur. they are pricey to fix, so if you dont have extra $$ on hand then it's not the best idea. Also there is more stuff u can do with the s4 to get it even faster!
goodluck

My 2000 S4 just rolled over 100,000 miles and I'm planning on another 200k (or until I save up enough for the B8 S4. Yay 3.0L Turbo!). The motor runs smooth as silk and the stock turbos are still pulling strong.

From the S4 FAQ page

What breaks on the S4
TBB tear, DV's go out, some sensors are flakey (Bosh MAF), seat bushings wear out ($5), tie rods ends are weak. There pretty solid cars, you just need to take care of them.

Are these cars expensive
Yes, parts are not cheap! Things will break! Timing belt is a $1000 job & needs to be done before 100,000mi. Turbo replacement is expensive due to having to pull the motor to change the turbo's. Just about every part will cost $100. If you can't afford to drop $1000 at any time on the car, walk away, or learn to wrench.

How long will my turbos last.
Till they blow. There is no way to tell. Boost leaks, long oil change intervals, bad DV's, lots of short trips, getting to the boost when cold, will all help kill em.

I'm about your age as well (18) and have a b5 S4...Nogaro blue apr chip and uuc shortshifter. forge valves, all that. I would say thats a good set up to start with before going crazy with turbos and fueling.

thats all i plan on doing but i dont want to get a car with a lot of miles, i found one with the motor and both turbos replaced but its kinda pricey and yellow (eww). oh and my parents bought me my cars and i pay for the rest (insurance, mods, gas). they're split up and split the price so they dont mind it, plus i work my *** off so they dont mind buying me a car, cuz thats all i do/spend my time and money on. i work 25-30 hours a week while getting honor roll in school, so yeah..
and i already read the S4 FAQ but i noticed it didnt have an M3 vs S4 comparison :P

In my opinion the s4 is better i have gone to 144 (because of the govenor) a couple times and it pulls right up to it and still wants to go, i dont know what the top speed of the m3 is but 144 is pretty fast, it drives great and corners better, im 18 and this is my first audi and i dont see myself owning anything else for a while. Its at ~130K miles on an 01 and from my knowledge nothing has gone wrong in it yet, other then the turbos are going to need to be replaced soon. They are expensive cars yes, especially at the pump since i cant seem to keep my foot off the floor, but from what i have heard and witnessed so far, if you take care of them they are great cars with few problems. If your really interested here is a black 2000 s4 6 speed for 8,800 the only down side is it has 170K on the chassis but the up side is there is a new motor with turbos and a new tranny from a donor car with under 70K on it, not a bad deal, worth considering if your budget is kinda tight and you really want one. Here is a link https://www.audiforums.com/m_704432/tm.htm. Hope this helps.
Oh and btw... SILVER FTW!!!!!!!
