Thats biased, which is ok because I like giac. But apr quotes 47hp gain. Coming straight from giacs website is says 40 to 45hp. Apr makes more hp.

Where do you see that GIAC quotes 40 to 45 and that APR quotes 47hp? (BTW, companies quote figures all the time. Unless it's backed up by dyno proof, I tend to be hesitant of it).
From GIAC's site;
"Programming for - The 2005 B6 S4 4.2L
GIAC performance software for the 2005 B6 S4 4.2L smoothly delivers a 15-23 hp and 15-28 ft-lbs gain. For optimum power gains the software must be coupled with a cold air intake."

Confident I would say.

So true. My 02 SS from SLP was rated at 345hp. 325hp from the LS1, and 10hp for the Air intake, and 10 for the exhaust. The car didn't Dyno close to that number. I recommend to Dyno the car stock, then Dyno the car after the mods.
Hey matrix, I've heard that claim before about the dealer not being able to detect a flash with GIACs software, but what kind of guarantee do we have that this is true?
Also, if the dealer decides to flash the chip with current upgrades, how does that effect the GIAC flash. (ie. will it mean that we have to flash the chip again from GIAC after visiting the dealer?)

If the dealer decides to Flash their updated stock software while the ECU has anything else besides a stock file on it(pump gas, race gas, anti-theft/valet), that updated stock file will flash over the GIAC file. You would have to get that GIAC file re-Flashed(we do this for just the cost of labor). That is why we suggest putting the ECU in stock mode when visiting the dealer.
HTH,
Jeremy
