Just need some clarification
I have a 2000 S4. Obviously, with the 2.7 biturbo. I live in southwest ohio, the greater cincinnati area. The roads were horrible to drive on this morning as I went into work. Seemed a little better on my way back as they had been plowed somewhat.
Onto my problem: While on my trip home, my car started to hesitate sometimes and would buck like a bull. If I held down the gas pedal, it would take a few seconds to pick up speed, but once it did it would drive fine for a few minutes. It did it about 4 times total, but I didn't want to stop and be stranded. I got home and parked it and let it sit for a few hours. About 3 hours after I got home, my girlfriend and I were gonna go get lunch, so I started the car to let it warm up for a couple minutes. After it warmed up for a few seconds, the rpms dropped below normal idle to about 800 and would sometimes drop for half a second below that. It felt REALLY rough just sitting still. The CEL came on eventually and I ran my scanner and got a P0300 code. Checked it, it was a "random misfire" code. Joy... Did a little research on here, came to discover that it might have been the MAF causing it. To be honest, I don't run any filter before the MAF. I figured it got dirty from all the salt and snow on the roads. I started the car again and it started running rough again. I then unhooked the MAF, and it idled normally. I figured it was just dirty, so I used isopropyl alcohol to clean it. Let it soak and dry. I plugged it back in, started the car, it went right back to rough idle. Unplugged it, and it was ok again. I drove around the apartment complex with it unplugged and everything seemed fine. So my question is... is my MAF just completely shot? Or should I try cleaning it with something else? And I will be getting a filter today so this doesnt happen again.
