Looking to Chip the B6 S4
ALright, I want to chip my car but am having trouble picking the best one. If anyone has any opinions, thoughts or experience with any of these products, feel free to chime in. Thanks in advance.
There are three companies that I am looking at:
AWE Tunings GIAC Chip
APR's Chip
Powerchip's site

I just had the APR installed. It seems a bit quicker and the throttle response is sharper. Or maybe it is just because my wallet is lighter....
I went with the APR and have ordered an APR exhaust - the APR 2+ version has some sort of warmup / anti-fault code routine in it that will keep from getting a CEL with the exhaust, at least per APR. We will see. The local factor had a lot to do with it - APR Matter Distrubutor 10 miutes away if anythng goes wrong.

i dunno man, an extra 19 ft/lbs and hp at the crank aint that much for 5 bills...
and with 30% drive train loss, your only lookin at an extra 10-12 at the wheels...
i'd rather spend the money on exhaust, make that thing sound badass...
dang, 2g's for an exaust...

They B6/B7 S4 just doesnt have the following of the B5 S4, no where near as tuneable
Yeah do the exhaust and chip together if u can, it will rev a bit more freely then (not that the 4.2 has that prob)

Thanks for the input from everyone. Keep it coming. I want to do the exhaust also but can't decide on who to go with. Should I do resonated and down pipe, non resonated and no downpipe, non resonated and downpipe. I dont' know and wish that I could hear a few before I decide. I am looking for a noticable sound but one that won't bother the neighbors.
By the way, did anyone look at Powerchips site. They claim a 33 hp increase on 93 octane gas. That's a nice jump in my book.
This is what they say:
Your Audi S4 4.2 V8 contains the latest technology ECU that can be re-programmed through the on-board diagnostic port (OBD-II). Specialised software interfaces with your vehicle’s engine management system to extract the electronic code via serial download. Once the information has been read, Powerchip technicians apply the performance changes and upload the performance program back through the OBD-II port. Installation cannot be performed by the end user. Programming must occur at an Authorized Powerchip Office or at authorised Powerchip Platinum dealers. The programming takes approximately 2 hour's to complete.
In standard form, the S4 4.2 V8 produces 340 hp and 302 lb.-ft.
Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 370 hp and 377 hp, and it's torque to between 326 lb.-ft and 335 lb.-ft.
The price of the Powerchip is USD $990.00.

the best combo is to do intake + full exhaust + chip and you'll get about 10% increase in power/torque. It's not much, but it does make a noticable difference. Besides, 10% means 375-380 HP v. 340 which is respectable. Definitely get exhaust first if you don't have it. I have the GIAC chip and it works great w/ K&N intake and AWE downpipes & catbacks.
