Default Maybe purchasing S4

Hey everyone. This is my first time here and just wanted to say im really impressed with this forum... That said ill get to my questions and concerns..

Im considering buying an 2000 or 2001 Audi S4. Of course with bi-turbo and 6 speed manual... All the ones I have found for sale have anywhere from 70k-120k miles.. Was just curious what I should look out for with those kind of miles, and if there is anything that is prone to failure at or around those miles.. I havent done too much research on this yet so any advice is appreciated.. I heard you can get these things to 310 HP (they didnt say if it was WHP or not...) with just a chip, is that true?? Also, probly a stupid question to you guys, but what the hell are DV's?? I keep hearing that around here.

I have always loved these cars, so I'm pretty excited at the prospect of owning one. I currently own a 87 Toyota Supra turbo.. I have put WAY too much money into it, and am blowing gaskets left and right.. And thats the least of my problems... Im gonna try to trade it in if I decide to get an S4... As much as I love my supra, it's just time to part...

Well i think thats it.. See you around.

Read the sticky at the top of this forum. then ask questions you dont understand after. because the sticky should answer 99% of them

Welcome man... you'll love the S4 the first time you drive it!!! as far as the typical concerns w/ the S4... TK is right! Check out the sticky and it will help alot. Try and get service records if you buy it from a private owner, see if the timing belt, turbos or other things in the sticky have been replaced and make your decision off of that.
Good luck!

wow jondin good first post. Come to an audi forum, go to the s-model sub forum, then bash the most popular car here by saying it sucks and reccomending to another user that they dont buy one.

By all means express your opinion, but from what i can see from your post you came here with no intention of learning anything or helping anyone. Do you own an s4? What problems have you had with it?

The s4 is a terriffic car i have had no problems with mine so far. They can be rewarding and if you treat it right it will treat you the same. There is a large following for the b5 so there are plenty of people to help you with your problems. There is also no shortage of aftermarket parts. All of us here love our audis and I personally would have a VERY hard time giving mine up.

Like steel city said read the FAQ it has most of what youll need. But heres a little anyway...

1. A DV is a dump valve pretty much the same hting as a bypass valve, it releases pressure from the piping after the turbo during shifts and other times the throttle is closed to help reduce turbo lag. Stock DV's (bypass valves) tend to tear, a good alternative are the 710n's.

2. That 300HP is not at the wheels, the AWD system of tends to take around 15-20% of the power, giving you prolly 260ish at the wheels.

With high mileage especially if its been chipped be careful of blown/going turbos. Also if the timing belt hasnt been done recently figure that into the price.

Read the FAQ its got lots of good info
