All I can say is that after 3-4K on my Mitsus I will see oil pressure drop on my gauges. Regardless that means the oil is thinning out even if the oil is at proper levels. I can say, however, that the 4G63 engine runs much hotter than the Audi engine which can decrease the engine life. For me, I go until I can start seeing that happening to my oil, which is around that 3-4K. I'd imagine on the 1.8T since I also do not have as much boost, the engine does not run as hot, I could run it much longer.

Your statements are correct, to each his own. The mobil 1 is great stuff... but not all cars are created equal, 15K is insane, maybe on an NA engine like the RSX mentioned it would hold out longer. On a turbocharged engine it will definitely not last as long.

Again, to each his own.. the oil and filter costs $24 for 5 quarts of Mobil1 and $5-10 for the filter. If you're doing the change yourself every 2-4 months, it's not really a big deal. If you are going to the jiffy lubes and it costs $50-60 then again, if you have the money, what's the big deal if you change it twice a year or 3-4 times a year?

who gives a sh*t when he changes his oil?(refering to easy)it his car, his money and apparently your worry, 727. to each his own, worry bout your self. i personaly would never run my oil to 15,000mi.
i do 5,000mi max. i just know that my oil is good and cleaned every 5k. so theres never any doubt in my mind. if i were running oil to 15k i would put changing the oil filter atleast twice during that period. what mileage are your oil filters rated for 727?

"Please be aware that not all synthetics are created equal. There is wide differences in quality and protection provided by the various synthetics. Additionally, not all synthetics are 100% synthetic. Many are partial synthetics marketed under the perception of full synthetics to the unsuspecting consumer or even Group III hydrocracked oils such as Castrol Syntec, for example, which is a hydroisomerized petroleum oil marketed under the disguise of a synthetic (there is a full article on this in our Informative Articles section detailing the recent battle between Castrol and Mobil). There are no PAO (polyalphaolefin) synthetic molecules in Castrol Syntec, yet because of legal finagling with the definition of synthesized motor oils they can legally be called synthetic. Basically, they changed the definition of a synthetic to fit the process of highly refining a petroleum base oil, called hydrocracking and fought with Mobil and the National Advertising Council to loosen the definition of a synthetic."

see its castrol doing that....anyway ive also heard great things about royal purple and redline which i was think about using in the future....ive got to go look up some good independent test resuts
later
The new stuff, does not use PAO, I'm looking for the site that did an oil analysis, and found it to be all base stocks. As you pointed out, not all Synthetic oil are, really synthetic anymore. I put most of then in the same class, Mobil, Castrol, Pensoil, etc. Basically anything that's cheap in the local auto arts store.

They are still quality Oils, but I would NOT put them in any Turbo car! Mobil 1 Delevac is suppose to be higher quality, & still use some PAO. There is German Castrol, that is great stuff. Shell makes Rotella T, that's a great Synthetic. My point is the packaging is misleading, and it's not a great oil anymore. They are super overcharging for what it is.

Your MUCH better off getting a real synthetic. Redline, Amsoil, Royal Purple, German Castrol, Shell Rotella, Lubro Moly, Motul, etc...

Yes, changing your oil at 2-3000 mi is just dumb, unless you are using crap oil. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY way to know exactly when your oil needs to be changed is to get it tested!! Dirty oil, is NOT bad oil. High quality oils use a better & more complete additive package, this keeps the oil at the proper viscosity longer, allows it hold more crud in suspension, & will do a better job at keeping the engine cleaner longer. Also lubricate better, & lessen sludge buildup.

Of course Mobil 1 web page is going to say it's the best stuff out there. Of course they are going to say it's a full Synthetic. Due to the new "laws" it is considered a synthetic. Just due to the definition being changed, that doesn't make the oil work better. Or make it like the old good M1.

I posted the links before, but I can't seam to find them.

Is the oil level the same at 3-4k when you see the oil pressure lowering?

Yes, unfortunately it is... which is why I can say that the oil is not keeping it's viscosity.

Ok did some more research and 2k s4 was right in M1 not being a full synth but M1 does have a small amount of PAO blended with Group 3 engine oil. This link has the write up about it and the areas to read are the sections titled Group 2 and Group 3 and Synthetics, if anyone cares to read about it.

The thing about Synthetics is it never breaks down like Convential Oil does. Synthetic is made to be used for a long time. 10k miles isnt an odd number for changing it but you have to think about the filter. The oil can outlast the filter but i wouldnt push it.
