Default More S4 fun

When I was pulling up to my friends house my car started running really loud, (almost like when your turbo is out, and i think mine is on the way)
I pulled it over and stopped after a few seconds and turned off the ignition. The motor began to diesel, and was shaking and trying to run at a very low rpm, the car took a while to finally turn off and when it did it would not crank, and the battery died all the way soon after. Any ideas on what could cause grinding sound, dieseling, and electrical failure?

Dead alternator. Almost positive. The "dieseling" was probably the fuel system struggling to get enough power to work and then it finally quit. The lack of fuel /lean condition probably caused a knocking sound and sputtering. I'd look into the charging system and if it'sfaulty, get a new battery and alternator. I say battery too because if it is weak it will put extra strain on the charging system and cause it to fail again sooner than normal.

I read your post again and the loud noise you heard initially could have been the alternator bearingsgoing bad and/or the belt slipping on it causing it to break. Have you looked to see if the serp. belt is still intact?
