so i was sitting on ebay with a bit of money left in my paypal and noticed some pretty good deals on aftermarket mufflers for my car, i recall reading some posts that people did where they did the muffler on stock piping no catback upgrades etc and they said it sounded better. Now I do plan to in the future throw a catback on it but for now would this be worth it? i mean will it sound any better? 2001 s4 btw.

 

any aftermarket muffler will make it sound different. It just depends how the muffler was made. But I would put money on it that it would sound better then stock.
