NEW B5 S4 !!!!
ORIGINAL: Scott Long
Well Ford has the Mustang (or what used to be the LX) and that is the V6 (although you used to get a 5.0 LX which was lighter and faster than the GT). They have the GT which is a V8. And they have the Cobra which is either a V8 with better heads and cam and intake manifold (93-95), a DOHC V8 (96-01), or a Supercharged DOHC V8 (03-04), or now the Shelby GT 500 (which is a big DOHC Supercharged V8 but it still has cobra emblems on the fenders). They haven't made a 4-cyl Mustang in since 93. Some people buy the cars for the image (although the smaller wheels and single tail pipe look stupid in my opinion), some buy them for the better gas mileage and cheaper insurance. I have seen some fast ones if you turbo or supercharge them. One guy I have met at a Ford show has a 9 second V6 turbo mustang that has been in magazines. Granted most young guys who can get a V6 Mustang think they are King of the road and I love to blow them away with my 4-door sedan.
And for what it's worth, the GT 4.6L 2v and the PI 4.6L 2v are pieces of **** motors. They sound good with an exhaust, but they have no low end torque. The 3v I've got no experience with so I won't comment. The Cobra's are the same way, no low end torque. That's why people swap to 4.30:1 gears in them to get them off the line and up into their power band quicker. The factory gears leave a lot to be desired.
Anyhow I used to love Mustangs, and I'd still be open to picking up an 03-04 Cobra, but I just like my Audi, I can fit in it better, the trunk is bigger, gets better mileage, handles better, and is just about as quick as a stock 99-04 GT. The potential is out there for the Audi but it's more expensive to mod than a mustang. There is just way too much aftermarket out there for the stang and thats why the prices are cheap because of the competition.
Personally I think they shoudln't have given up on the 5.0L pushrod motor. Chevy still runs pushrod motors (Ls1-2-4-6-7) and they are making HUGE power out of them. So much for ancient technology huh? Overhead cam motors are notoriously weak down low compared to a pushrod motor. But then again they do usually rev higher and make more power higher up.
Anyhow the way I see this is S4 > Mustang. No matter what you do to a stang, it's just not sophisticated like an Audi. Besides would you like to take a business colleague out to lunch in a Mustang that is loud, uncomfortable, and barely driveable on the street, or would you rather take them in a smooth riding nice handling sophisticated S4? Also try putting small kids in the back of a stang.... the S4 wins there too.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO TYPE THIS UP???
you have too much time on your hands i guess...that just took me forever to read let alone write something like that as a response to mustangs..you must like the stang..cause you for sure do know what your talkign about in every aspect of that essay...
good job
I was 18 once
Mustangs can be fun - I'm partial to the older ones - but I like the new ones too. To each their own.
Not too long ago I talked to some "kids" who had one of the finest looking Mustangs I had ever seen - very tastefully body paneled, 2 tone (red and gold) painted and with awesome light treatments, nice wheelsetc - a real looker) . I commented to them about it at a light. They were very appreciative that I noticed but told me "it was only a V6" - my response was that the car looked great and they obviously had a lot of love for it - so what does it matter. They were digging the S4 big time BTW (actually they started the conversation as they had caught up to me at the light after I blew by them pretty good...they were amazed that I went by a cop as fast asI did...my response was "what cop?" - oops - never saw him...don't know how he failed to notice me...). Anyway don't be down on Mustangs - or even civics - all can be fun and cool in there own way. Of course S4 is always a great choice (but you must also have the $ or ability to deal with its issues...as it were...)

Nice snag!
Also.. while on topic, I'm 19 been wanting an S4 for quite a while, test drove one last year with 104K on it but it had a few problems and I ended up getting my A4. Hopefully in the next year or so I'll find the right S4 and snag it. Also, what is your guy's insurance like on the S4 at age 18-21? What type of coverage you got an so forth?

Im 18 and have 1 speeding ticket 2 years ago and 1 stop sign violation about 18 months ago.
My old insurance company had me at $4269 a year with full coverage. I then switched to another company and got a 6 month policy which cost me about $1400

, 04' BMW 750li (dad), 02' BMW X5 sport (mom), Porsche Boxster (optional), Custom Yamaha 1100 Bike (dad's toy)... I figure thats not to bad considering our cars. The audi is definitely the best though. I'll shoot a couple pics of the group when i go back home from school in a couple of weeks. Thanks guys

Honestly, about 3-4 minutes.
I am not a mustang diehard. I like them, but have never owned one. I do have two fords, but they are supercharged thunderbirds. I just know a lot about cars, and the Mustang is one of the most popular cars in America and I have had friends that had mustangs. So I've been around them and I know about them.
I kicked around the idea of getting one (either GT or Cobra), but I'm glad I bought the S4 instead.
