Default New to Forums!! ----> 2005 S4

Hey everyone, new to the forums...

I am looking to buy a 2005 S4 sedan with quattro. It has 81400 miles, which makes me nervous, but I am getting the car for around 20k. It is a private owner, who is a retired salesman, so most of the miles are highway. He has all the service papers, and I talked to the dealership that worked on it, and even they said the car is immaculate.

Question: Is this something I should be nervous about and shy away from, or does this deal seem ok. I am nervous about the miles / clutch, but I really dont think this guy beat on the car too much. I only drive about 4k to and from work, so I wont be putting too many miles on it, which is why I am considering the car.

Let me know!!

Sounds like a great deal imo.
Miles are a little high, but the V8's are pretty reliable. Has the timing belt been replaced? make sure it has with those miles.
4K miles to work! lol That's a ton! I'm sure a misprint.

Is this a 05 or 05.5 because the 05's are the b6's and the 05.5's are b7's iirc.
when you get the car, will you be doing any mods??
Welcome! Purple flavored Cool-Aid will be served Fridat at 12:15.

Hey thanks for the response, sweeds4!

I meant to say 4k to and from work per year. Only 8 miles to and 8 back per day.

I have been looking through the forums for the difference between the b5 and b6, but cant find anything. Can you explain the difference?

Also, not sure about the timing belt. Something I will be sure to ask the seller. If it hasnt, what can I expect? Sounds like it goes out around 70k ?? How much to get it changed??

Thanks for the info!!!!!!!!

B5 (2000-2002) has a 2.7T V6bi-turbo motor and was an older body style.
B6 (2004-2005) featured the 4.2 V8 which is what you're looking at, and is the body style before the current design.

Basically different engines and body styles.

I thought the B6 4.2 had a timing chain. Am I misinformed?

He means 2000-2002 for a B5

B6 S4 4.2= timing chain, non serviceable. These motors are bulletproof,I would be more concerned about the clutch with 80K if i were you.
