Default New guy. Looking at an '01 S4. Need help.

Ok, so first off, I dont have an Audi. I'm currently looking at a 2001 S4 though and wanted to know about the reliability and how expensive repairs would be before I took any step towards buying it. Like I said, the car is a 2001. It's the sedan model. It has 119,xxx miles on it. The interior is clean as well as the paint. The owner is a private dealer and I'm not sure if he actually owned the car or not. He told me that it did have an aftermarket exhaust and a chip in it. For the year and the miles, are there any known problems that would occur right about that mileage? Or are there other problems that I need to look for? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated because I know absolutely nothing about Audis.
Thanks, Chris.

biggest headache and heartache you will ever have. and also the most fun and enjoyable..
parts are expensive, they will go bad, and nothing is easy to work on these cars.

nothing

I'm in the same boat as the OP. What if the S4 has gotten it's 100k mile tune up/maintenance check and all the parts that needed to be replaced were replace. How much of a headache can you expect? Or will the car be "headache free" for a little while?

buy the car if you have money for the repairs and if you can repair yourself when it comes down to it you can find parts cheap if you know how to search classifieds ....as far as the car with all maintenance done make sure they can provide proof of that..im a new s4 owner i bought my car from a good guy and he was in the process of converting from auto to stick so the motor was out im putting it all in and he has helped and theres nothing wrong i have proof of all service done and all parts needed are new ...just need a radiator but i dont find the work hard on these cars if you have the time for it .. sorry for the long post

As long as you are single and dont have a wife that bitches about all the money you dump into your cars then youre ok, otherwise this car will destroy your marriage. Unless youre a baller with money to burn.

These cars are expensive, but if you do the work yourself, they can be somewhat affordable to own. Yes, parts are expensive, and, as bigern stated earlier, NOTHING is easy to work on. That said, if you pay someone else to do the work, it's going to be expensive. Do the work yourself and save some serious $$.

Having an S4 is like having anything else thats high maintenence (read: women). If you have the time and the money, the rewards are great. A car that oozes class, power and fun. Just make sure you can do the work yourself, or find someone who knows Audi's and doesn't charge too much.

Being a mechanic doesn't mean you can work on an S4.
