yo whats up, i just put a deposit on my 2000 Audi s4, picking it up from a Jeep/Chrysler dealership it was a trade in. He're is my question, it has 78k miles, i test drove it it feels good the turbos spool up very very nicely the clutch is a little clunky but i assume that thats the difference between my friends' WRX, CivicSi, and GTO...each of those are very different so i assume its just my first drive with a Euro car that makes it equally different, there were no bad sounds whatsoever, the entire car is clean in and out, but the check engine light is on. is this very common? im going to try and make the dealership bring it to audi to get it removed before i buy it cuz its sold AS IS with no warrantee except a 30 day/1000mi. I also heard it could just be dumb sensors. or is it possible that this car has been chipped? the dealers are old men that really dont know about this car, i had to inform them a bunch of stuff. buying it for $14,800.

well yes its very well it could be chipped.. Being that you ahvent driven one befroe..kind of hard to tell the difference i suppose. You could always look at the ecu. Or else go test drive a different one. But I WOULD FOR SURE take that to an audi dealer or make them fix it and know why that light is on before buying. Sensors throwing codes are pretty common.. but you never know.

 

Do me a favor...make sure they have it inspected @ a reputable Audi dealership before you purchase it...the car has obviously been modified...tell the dealer you'd like an audi inspection.

Congrats on the New S4. Definately take it to the dealer and get the light checked out. If the car runs good it very well may just be an 02 sensor or something simple. But whatever it is the dealer should be taking care of it before selling you the car.

 

Just an assumption...Audi S4 at a Jeep/Chrysler dealership...a company that probably knows nothing about the car...that's how I'd unload a beaten down car..

 

got a good point there. but idk... if you talked them down to 15k, i'd say you're getting a pretty good deal. but you don't want to get a beat up s4.... you're the one who wants to beat it down!! that's the fun of it

 

when i baught my a4, it was already chipped with apr...

so its hard for me to imagine what stock would be like, much like you..

however, a boost gague would solve that problem easy, its a $70 buy for a basic vdo gague, pod, and hardware...

i guess s4's are known for being beaten down, i'd take it to the closest audi dealership b4 you buy it.

i always say piece of mind is better than any upgrade...

 

okay so basically the dealership has refused to give a warrantee or pay for an audi checkup. they agreed to let me take it to Audi under my cost which i guess is reasonable. does anyone have a clue how much a diagnostic/engine check light fix costs as long as its just a bug and nothing big? like how much money for them to check out my car? im kinda pooring it out just to get this damn car home with me. thank jebus tomorrow is payday.

 

if they won't have it checked out, i'd let them sit on it and keep hunting. even if it is a glitch, how is a dealership going to try and sell a car with a known idiot lite illuminated? i don't care if they sell chrysler products, this car should have no indications showing up without them knowing what the problem is.
