Default New owner post, some questions

Hello everyone, i am currently a new owner of the beautiful car known as an Audi S4, these cars are amazing and seem to have a great amount of power, stock, i just bought mine a few days ago with 116,XXX miles on a silver 2001, the best part is that all the maintenance is done with paper work and the tires are two months old... woo hoo for me. Anyway i was just woundering a couple simple questions... i looked around a little last night and did not see answers to much and yes i know how to search, this isint my first forum membership.

Questions:
1. Are these cars MAF based or MAP based?
2. Is there anything that i should worry about failing anytime soon?
3. How can i hook up my iPod and subs in this car and still keep that factory sterio? Is there a way to tap into it?
4. Finally... What are some decent performance and aperance mods that i can do myself? Is there a page i can see with a list or something?]

In the future i hope to become a helpfull member of this forum and i hope to have a great time with this car.

1. MAF based
2. After 100K miles these are possible things that might happen
-turbos might fail (depends on how well it was maintained and how hard it was driven by previous owner)
-You might need another timing belt service at 130k-140K miles
-If you dont have non-stock Diverter Valves and Throttle Body Boot, you might want to get those replaced. Throttle Body boot tends to tear, and aftermarket DV's are a big plus, especially if you want to do any performance mods in the near future.
3. Ipod can be hooked up using and Icelink module, you have to get your radio out in order to do so, but its relatively easy to install. I actually HAVE ONE I AM SELLING if you are interested, also with the mounting clip to mount the Icelink on the right side of your radio. It has been opened but never used, PM me or email me at joshgoncsu@gmail.com if interested in buying. The Icelink's usually go for 50-60$ and the clip to mount is another 20-30$.
4. I just got my S4 about 3 months ago, and Im looking to do most of the things you might be doing. Here are some ideas for you.
- Go to stage 2 ASAP by upgrading Exhaust, Throttle Body boot, Diverter Valves, and get a chip. If you are patient and you buy used/reduced price parts you can do this upgrade for about 1500$ total. This will take you from about 250 HP (stock) to around 315-330 HP (depending on the exhaust and chip you purchase). Easy way to gain very good HP and even better torque for an awesome price.
- You can always buy new wheels for a different look if you want

The S4 FAQ posted at the top of this thread has a lot of info. Take a look at that and come back with questions if you have any

Yes to everything Joshpu said.

You can keep your stock head unit by getting the icelink module he is talking about. I have one and it took me all of 10 minutes to hook up. Mine allows me to control the Ipod through the factory radio.

I also installed a sub & amp using a line level converter which allowed me to keep all the stock speakers as well. There arebetter ways of doing it but ifyou are notan audiophileyou should be happy with the set up.

For the iPod, I purchased an adapter which plugs into the CD changer in the trunk. The cable is then routed to the front. Typically I just leave my iPod on shuffle in the arm restand change songs via thestereo. Of course you can use the iPod to control as well.

Not the exact one I got, but it's similar. Just go to some place local that sells car stereos and / or hooks them up. They should have one.

Hooked up to speaker wire in the trunk next to the the stock amp.

Read the FAQ, it has all the info in there, or in the links.

1. If you just opened up the hood, you could have looked for your self. They use BOTH, there is a MAP in the TBB.
2. Yup, something will break soon. My bet is a MAF, N75, O2's, EGT's, control arms
3. Just get the factory one, it hooks up behind the HU & integrated the controls to the HU.

4. Again it's in the FAQ, 2 "free" mods are the Darintake, & piggies. There is also Lemi, but get to know the car first. For appearance, drop the suspension, get some wheels, then get a RS4 front drill.

Just get an AUX cable (Headphone to Headphone) cord and plug it into the headphones instead of paying for an ipod hookup. It'll plug right into the back of the head unit as an AUX.... at least it should!

Oshberg:
thanks for the help, i knew there was a stock amp in the trunk somewhere, i looked but didnt see it anywhere, can someone tell me maybe where to look harder at?

2K S4:
I did look under the hood but since i have only had the car for a few days i have not had a chance to really look in detail, and i read through a lot of the faqs, as i believe i stated above, i might take a look into the factory one iPod adapter, with the icelinks can you control the iPod through the sterio too?

Woodhead2k:
Already thought of that but as this is the nicest car i have had with a lot of options i want to try and keep making it better, ie. being able to control the iPod through the sterio for one :P
