New s4 :)
Hey guys..Glad to be on the forums. Mid-last week i picked up my first Audi. It's a dark blue s4. 2000, auto. 64k miles. I got it for a STEAL. It has a neuspeed exhaust and upgraded struts (he couldn't recall what
). It's mostly stock on the outside except no logos on the back and a rs4 grille on the front. It has a upgraded alarm and a fuel kill switch in the trunk, along with front door handles without locks. He had trouble with people trying to steal it. Well anyways i'm loving it so far it's a bunch of fun to drive. Just wanted to introduce myself, im very excited. I'm thinking about some upgrades in the future. Of course chipping the ecu is what came to mind first but the previous owner warned me it's bad for the tranny and not to do it. It was about the only thing he had to say. To what extent is this true..what are the downsides to chipping? I've done my searching but i couldn't find an answer. Thanks again guys

with that type of comment I'm assuming you have an automatic?
you can chip the motor and not the trans, or you can chip the trans and it will increase shifting speed but have heard that is not great for transmission life.
then again, i have never heard anyone say that chipping the motor has increased it's life either... so it is really a wash, performance for decreased service life...!

Right its automatic. All i remember him saying was don't chip it, it says its bad on the forums. Maybe he was reffering to tranny. I was to excited to listen to him ha..i'm intrested in chipping the ECU anyways
I'll have to decide. I think for now im going to stay stock for a little for money reasons. By the way... i got this for 8k

incredible deal. (remember 64k miles)Nothing serious wrong with it, brought it to a shop close to me that only does bmw's and audi's. They race bmw's also. The guy working on it worked for audi/porsche dealer for 20 years prior so i trust them. http://www.autotechnic.net/they found a few things. with labor it'll end up costing me about about a grand. Timing belt isn't done yet, im planning on that soon. Otherwise this was a steal it's in great condition. The guy selling it had to get a handicap van for his father so he was in a rush to sell..plus he prob. didn't have the money to fix the current problems. If he brought it to a dealer or someone charging high right now he might be in for alot of cash.
