Default new s6 is insane..and refined

this thing sounds scary and pulls like no other i have had. it has the fastest throttle response of any vehicle i have owned. this is an M5 killer. i have had a6 turbo, a6 4.2 quattro sport and m3's and this is 10 times more wild. i especially like the detail. the carbon fiber is pristine and the polised paddle shiffters on the wheel are hot. there is a back up cam and the seats and steering wheel all have s6 with new design. the calipers are s6 and the V10 is absolutely freaky... i like the unique running lights in the front and the overall audi touch. a V 10 for 80k and 435HP also has value. Go figure...i chose white with black. look for the leather dash sticthing. it is an option and is done extremely well.

I don't doubt your nor do I mean to bust your bubble - but how could a 435hp S6 be a (500hp) M5 killer? I'm sure it is very fast, quite refined and quite wicked in its own way however.

ugh... Is horsepower your litmus test? Aside from the torque of the S6, I feel the M5 is inferior in many ways. Remember the E36 M3 only had 240 horses and killed most with 300 plus horse. The torque was mind boggling for a vehicle of that time frame. I have driven both and am simply sharing my opinion. Have you driven both?

ok... so the s6 has 398ft-lb to the 385 of the m5.. i wouldnt say that is blowing it out of the water... The s6 is stated to run 0-60 in just over 5 seconds.. i know the M is faster than it, its stated at 4.5.. maybe you werent running on all 10 cyl.

Dont get me wrong..the s6 is a badass car and i think its luxuries and other options are much nicer than the M. I would rather take the S6. but face facts its not an M killer. jsut like the s4 isnt faster than the m3.

i just think that BMW has lost ground (speaking from experience (3) m3's 740il all owned) and i don't think you can compare the 2 autos today. anyway... nice to hear from ya...

i totally agree with you on that.. i think overall the s6 is a nicer car. same with the s4 vs m3 comparo which of those 2 ive driven both and the s4 was purely just nicer. maybe not as quick but had the whole package. but theyre still two different cars also.. youre right..very hard to comapre two cars now adays

I agree with sooks here. I think the problem is with terminology. When you say it is an "M5 killer" you are implying that it exheeds the M5 in performance - and this is a rather dubious claim. If you said that (in your opinion) the overall package - styling, luxury & trim, AWD, around town torque, and so forth - then OK. But to just call it an M5 killer you are implying pure performance. I happen to agree with you the BMW has seriously lost its edge and that Audi has been moving up - performance wise, content wise and just nice/on target wise - with their cars. The bangle BMWs don't look that exciting and they have become more like Cadillacs - in terms of focus on luxury vice raw performance - and the latter is what I have always valued in BMWs. I don't need plush - I want a determined effort toward a car that is both practical (4 door...at least 4 seats...roomy & such) and performance orientated. BMW to me was always a bit more raw an unrefined underneath - with a classy/unique and very appealing look. While the new cars do perform impressively - they have lost the raw edge that to me gave them special excitement (in fact I am so happy to have picked up the last refinement in the E46 330 which really is a fine example of BMW prowess IMO). The new cars are more like Mercedes then BMW - and that has zero apeal for me. They are still fine cars - though styling and luxury (such as automatic vs stick etc) emphasis leaves a lot to be desired. Meanwhile Audi - which has always been a bit softer & more refined then BMW - but still with excellent handling, features and performance potential - has been refining its product - along the same lines as it always has IMO...and frankly at this point in time I would choose an Audi over a comparable BMW along the entire product range (excepting perhaps the new M version of the Z4 - which rocks IMO...though I sitll do vastly prefer the Z3 body style...). For instance, there was a time (not all that long ago) where I would pretty recomend the 3 series over an A4 hands down...(unless snow/quattro was a serious consideration)...I just thought that the 3 series was more performance orientated and connected to the road - and while I liked the styling of both cars I felt that the 3 series was just a more engaging car to drive on a daily baisis. If I had the choice now I would likely go with Audi (reliability concerns aside perhaps...). The new BMWs by and large just don't do it for me - but when I see an Audi - particualrly the higher end models - I'm always left breathless and thinking - "now this is a car!" and admiring it - BMW in general doesn't always do it for me that way (like it used to)....

BTW - Derek - congrats on buying a great car! I am quite sure that all you stated in your intitial post is true. You've got a winner. ANd its very interesting what you have said concerning your impression sof throttle response and such - I'm sure it pulls like a M'Fer and must be a great drive around town and out on the road - again congrats! I didnn't mean to sound so negative concerning your "M5 killer" claim - I just think it was perhaps a semantics issue. I do understand where you are comming from here.
