nOOb question re: brakes on B5 S4
I purchased my 2002 Santorin Blue S4 last november and today I attempted to have the 50k service done...
I've been told that I need to replace the front and rear pad and rotors.
I'm looking for some advice on whether I should source the parts from the AF sponsors and which parts I should get.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Did previous owner race the car during his spare time ? has 2KS4 said previously 50K miles
is early for a set of rotors/pads. Anyway, i got mine from ECSTuning and i'msatisfied with them.
If i remember correctly, i had 4 slotted/cross drilledrotors + a set of low dusting Mintex red box + brake fluid +1 man power bleeder tool for brakesfor under 700 $.

thanks for the word of wisdom... yeah..i was thinking that is was a bit early for pads and rotors too but they measured the pads in front of me...
as for the rotors...i'm not sure how to tell if they are ready to go...
the shop is getting me a price quite close to some of the forum sponsors on mintex pads for the front and rear.
the list of mods the previous owner gave me makes me think he did race -
GIAC S4 software AWE twin 2 exhaust and down pipes Short Shifter (currently set at 30% reduction) Koni Shocks APR springs APR bi-pipe & snub mount Forge motorsports Turbo diverter valves (the newer membrane ones not the old piston ones)
thanks again...

with that list of mods he easily raced the car....spend the money and buy the more expensive pads dont worry bout cost worry about quality cause the brakes on the stock s4 are expensive to have changed so do it right the first time that what i have learned.....
now when you say he raced it, what do you mean by race? stoplight racing, or real racing? some classes dont allow any modifications, and other are unlimited. so who's to say that your stock S4 wasnt raced???

thanks,
For me they work just great
Since they are stock dimensions there is no point to enlarge
the actual calipers. Actually i never test stopping distances before/after but i assume that if
disc are better ventilated (slotted/cross drilled = better cooling) they would performed better in
hard driving situations. There is a difference in braking feel and pedal feel. Cross drill and slots make
a kinda vibrating feel in the pedal, especially when you brake hard from high speeds. You'll get use too it +. For the price im 100 % satisfyied. If you want a significant upgrade in performance go for a Big Brake Kit (Stoptech, Brembo...) + $$$$$$ but if you're a week end racer it would worth it.
Good luck with you're mods

Thanks bro. Yeah I was looking at the Stoptechs on Stratmosphere's website, and theysound very nice for the money. I don't think I will ever require the capacity of the Porsche "Big Reds" or the Brembos (nor be able to afford either), so knowing there is an affordable kit out therethat looks good and can perform makes it all the more appealing.
That's prettyinteresting (but logical) what you said about the slotted/cross-drilleds... It's amazing how mods seem so attractive, until you actually install them and notice "the little flaws" that go along ; )
