i need new front o2 sensors on my car. ive been doing my research and all of the sudden im confused. i was told that i could wire up a 4 wire universal oxygen sensor to the old plugs wiring harness. pretty awesome trick since i have a sauder gun and universal plugs are only maybe 30 dollars compared to 160 dollars for oe replacement plugs. now the reason im confused is i read somewhere that universal ones wouldnt work on a b5 s4. i forgot where i read this but can someone confirm that this is right or wrong? i need to get these replaced as soon as possible so all help is greatly appreciated. theres a lot of things wrong with my car right now because the previous owner took shitty care of the car and im tryin to bring her back to her true colors

 

I've been running upstream Bosch universals for over a year without a hitch.
The best part is they have solderless weatherproof connectors.

I'm running a Bosch Universal on Bank 2 S1 right now and it runs great. I picked it up at Advance Auto Parts for about $75.

And like Red said, no soldering required. Solderless, waterproof connectors are included with the kit. Just strip, hook up, and go.

Just make sure to wrap the exposed wires with the heat reflecting cloth attached to the firewall. The only difficult part is removing/installing sensor 1 in Bank 2. The wiring itself is easy. Bank 1 sensor 1 is much easier to remove/install.
