I have had an odd starting problem with my 04 S4. Sometimes when i push the clutch and go to start the car after a day or so nothing happens. All the lights come on and everything but the starter does not engage. this will go on for about 10 minutes and i get pissed go back in the house for a minute or so then go back out to the car and it starts up on first turn of the ignition. Im having a problem figuring this out because it does not happen all the time. Any advice?

 

Most likely you need a new or rebuilt starter. Also, make sure to check the wiring. You could have a short. Good Luck

 

thank you, im leaning more towards the short since it is quite intermittent. could it possibily be a relay that gets stuck?

 

Easily it could be a relay. Make sure to check the wires going to the starter as well. That is certainly a possibility as well.

 

Do these cars have a clutch safety switch? It could also be that, if so (ie. thinks car is still in gear and won't start).
