Which oil?
I am the new owner of a '02 S4 with 57kmiles. Would it be useful/wise to switch to synthetic oil at this point?
I think someone posted a way to check whether a car is already using synthetic by looking at the dirt in the oil filler cap. What's the exact way to test this?

My car has 57k on it, bought it last month, most probably all its life with mineral oil. I'm thinking of switching.
According to this article: http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html , it's not necessary to be too worried about making a switch, there's little chance on leaky seals with the latest chemical technology.
The one thing that might be worrysome is that synthetic oil dislodges crap. So I figure I can mitigate that by adding some kind of flush additive right before the oil change where I'll switch from mineral to synthetic, e.g http://www.autobarn.net/chmf-3.html
So is there anything wrong with this plan:
- Car has mineral oil now at 57k
- Add Gunk 5-Minute Motor Flush in the Lube Fast parking lot.
- Get Mobil-1 5W/30 synthetic
