I have been looking and researching Audi S4s for over a year now. I missed out on a good deal last fall b.c I was too chicken **** to pull the trigger and my wife and I were about to have a baby.

So, we had our baby and I still have the S4 itch. Here is the one I am considering:

2005.5 Silver with 2-tone seats
approx, 64k miles
Tiptronic
Cold Weather pkg
Naigation pkg

Very clean and well-kept along with a decent price.

What my fears are the pending timing belt, maintenance, etc.

Can anyone comment on what to expect with an S4? And yes I know I could read through the hundreds of posts on here to find that out.

 

MPG on a v8 sucks, but I am sure you are ready know that, just also be ready for **** to break, and it will cost alot to fix if you cant do it your self.

 

Get a 6spd.

Audis are not the most reliable cars, but they're also NOT pieces of $hit. Take good care of the car and it will return the favor.

I am serious when I say get a 6spd though. The tip isn't a bad transmission, but it's not nearly as fun as the 6spd and autos are notoriously more expensive to fix than manuals.

 

Well I got news for ya, you dont have to worry about the timing belt because it doesnt have one its a chain. That was the good news, the bad news is the chain cover always and by always i mean always leaks at some point in time or another. And if you werent going to do it yourself you are talking a serious chunk of change, I tried to look up the exact hours but was unable too sorry but at near 100 dollars an hour and you are talking (just a guess) 20 hours.
But i would still buy one just make sure you have to money to fix the things that fail on it.

 

Since the wife will drive this car too the tiptronic is the way to go. Less stuff for HER to mess up. I do agree that 6spds are more fun. This one model does have the paddle shifters on the steering wheel so that adds some fun.

I think I will have to look into the chain cover and see if that had been replaced prior to trade-in. I seriously doubt it since most dealerships only repair after the fact instead of performing preventive maintenance

I also take it that replacing the chain cover is a little more labor intensive unless you have garage experience?

 

yea unless you plan on doing it yourself its gonna cost you a pretty good amount
