Default Pre-Chipping Questions

I am soon plannign to have my ecu flashed with GIAC but I want to do as many prevenative measures before i do it. I am wondering if it is worth it to get the APR Y pipe to prevent the TBB problem or will a replacement TBB be sufficient if so which one. And also i want to replace the DV's, wondering which brand is best.. I was thinking Baileys motorsport any other good ones?

I had my ECU GIAC flashed about a month ago. The first thing I upgraded was the intake. Right when I installed the intake my DV's sounded like ducks under the hood and I had realized that they were probably blown for a while. I replaced them with the Evo Motorsports DV's and they are excellent. They are a piston design rather than a diaphram so future leaks and failures will probably be non-existant. Since they are a piston they do not need periodic oiling like most of the diaphram ones do. They are EXPENSIVE but if I had the choice I would get them again. I also replaced the TBB with the samco one in order to save some money. If that one goes I will switch to the Bi Pipe. If you have the money, go for it. TBB (bipipe) and DV's are a necessity though.

I like Bailey's diverter vavles and I think you will be happy with them. I would also recommend getting downpipes with high flow or deleted catsso the turbos don't build up any excess heat. This causes premature turbofailure imho.

Just get Bosh 710N DV's & buy a spare TBB. Check it @ EVERY oil change. If you plan on doing more to the car, & have the $$, the Bi-Pipe is a good investment & so is a tunable rebuildable DV's. The Samco TBB is also nice.

Ok well, so far, I just had the timingbelt, water pump, plugs, air filter, cabin filter and a few other things, basically the inspection 1 and 2 tuneup. I will do the tranny fluid this week that sounds like a good idea, i'm also putting in high flo cats this week as well. As far as all of the DVs you guys mentioned which is the most bang for the buck, i don't plan on exceeding 340 horse so i don't need dvs that are designed for a stage 3. Also what is the difference in price betwen the Y pipe and a new tbb i know the y pipe will work out to be about 400 dollars how much is a new good TBB?

Pretty much any aftermarket DV out there is gonna be sufficient for your Stage II to Stage III mods; some DV's come with their own spring kit so you can adjust if running higher/lower boost (these cost a little more, but not by much). Again, it's not like there's DV's designed just for Stage II or Stage III ... The Audi TT 710N's should handle most of your Stage II needs, but these might start leaking under higher boost or after many miles (theyuse similar components/design as the factory DV's). STFA, cause there has been many discussions on the topic.

You should probably check some of the tunersfor part prices (ECS-Tuning.com, AWE-Tuning.com, Achtuning.com, AutoSpeedPerfomance.com, SupremePowerParts.com, etc.). The factory TBBreplacement is about $40-$50 I think... but why would you replace it if they're eventually prone to failure? The SAMCO TBB is like $90, which is steep but that's about the cheapest I know of and you won't have to worry. The y-pipe is obviously gonna eliminate this problem entirely, and supposedly smooth outthe charged air stream (prevent spikes). I don't know if you'll necessarily get any extra HP (nor with the TBB, unless your existing one is leaking) but this is probably a good idea if you plan to upgrade turbos later...

Good luck.

Guys just a FYI, it's a APR Bi-Pipe, not a Y pipe. The Y pipe is the silver thing that come off the MAF to the inlet tubes.

TBB = Throttle Body boot. Its the rubber piece that takes the two charge pipes from the intercoolers and converges them into one to connect to the trottle body.
