Hello:

I found a nice 2002 S4 tiptronic with relatively low mileage. I currently have a 2001 A4 with 1.8T and manual -- really like the S4.

Only question that I had about the S4 was that it seemed to have a bit of "whine" from the driveline which seems normal quattro whine based on my experience with an A4...however, wanted to validate that with other S4 owners.

I have a 2001 Tip and I am unaware of any drivetrain whine. You may want to take it to a dealer for a inspection before purchasing the car.
Sometimes torque converters can whine when they are about to lay down.
