Default Question about muffler

ok so i have my 01 s4 apart in the garage right now im workin on doing piggie pipes, im about to drop the dp's down, but i was looking at my exhaust while i was under there. Right now money is tight so im tryin to save some, now say i cut out the muffler and had a shop weld in just a piece of piping to my tips, would that do anything performance wise or just add to the sound? And could you drive around with just the muffler off and not throw a code?

anytime you remove a component from your exhaust and replace the space with pipe you are lowering the resistance.. how much, im not sure.. it just depends on which component you remove.. the dp precats are the most resistance in the path of those turbos spooling...so im guessing if you remove your mufflers youll gain 5, maybe 10 ponies??

yea but can i safely drive around without a muffler, like does it mess anything up over time? And say i do that for now would it be worth it later on to uprade to larger exhaust piping, like will there really be that big of a gain over just stock piping minus the muffler?

anything after the cats shouldnt screw up any engine codes.. the turbos alone give the engine enough back pressure to where it shouldnt hurt anything. you'd feel gains with the piggies and probably a little with no pipes but a larger diameter would be better but dont get crazy thinkin a 4 in exhast is going to help...it wont. i think you'd be fine with your set up...i'd put different tips on tho.. something a little larger than the stocks would look cool.
