What is your RPM'S in 6th gear at 80mph. sound like im winding out at 3100.

if that is right then it has to be tire whine. it is loud at anything over 50. thanks.

At 80 mine is right around 3100 in 6th gear. You've got plenty of room left. I hit 119 in 5th the other day and had WAY more room to go before needing to drop into 6th.

 

@ 80mph in sixth i'm at about 3,500rpm... sucks... i have to go 65-70mph in order to get 20mpg...plenty of torque in sixth though

 

Those V8's sure arent efficient in the fuel economy but hey its worth its a sweet ride man

 

Why's it so high? 80 in 6th, I'd have thought you'd be around 2200-2700. (I dont own an Audi... Yet. Just lurking for info)

 

Audi transmisions and engines are tuned for high speeds such as the autobahn, the gearing has a lot to do with that. Correct me of im wrong.

 

not sure why they made 6th soo short..... i was definetly suprised..when i first bought the car..... i thought "great, it's a 6 speed"... "i'll get good gas millage on the freeway!" .... (nope[:@])

seems like it was stricktly designed to go very fast.... believe me, in any gear, at almost any rpm, this car just wants to go... such a smooth powerband too.... oh' worth every penny of that high octane gas it guzzles.....
