RS4 intercooler options
so i have my entire front end off due to a fan clutch bearing bad, and im going to fix some oil leaks and probably do the timing belt and water pump.. just noticed how easy the intercoolers are to get to now and was wondering what are the benefits of RS4 intercoolers or an aftermarket product that is comparable. I know they allow more flow and volume so the air will be cooler but how does that raise the bhp on a stock b5? if any? and im prepping to get an APR tune that will raise bhp and torque to 315 and 380.. how will the bigger intercoolers change those numbers? and last.. where can i get these intercoolers (RS4's or comparable aftermarkets) whether they are used or new?
You can get them from tons of places, I would say awetuning first. They don't give you more hp per say. They help your entire charged air system out, it gets complicated here but they are an extremely valuable thing to have.
Without intercoolers my stage 2+ dyno'd 310whp, then immediately after, it dyno'd 258.
Had I had my front mount on, I would have seen more consistant numbers.
I'd skip on the rs4 IC's. Go with either AWE or ER

AWE's are not significantly better than RS4s if you have seen the loggings of the boost temperature changes and boost psi loss between the two you would agree, especially if one were to use Methonal injection :0)
