Default s4 with 175k?

Looking at an 2000 S4 6sp manual local to me with 175k miles.
"Runs and drives great" with need of some bodywork.Clean title.

Anyways, At any rate, at 175k miles What parts should be replaced? What about 200k? How many miles can this car take?

Alrighty. Here is what my plans are.
Timing belt will be replaced, I dont care what reciepts they have.
Water pump will be replaced. Same as above.
Wheel bearings will probably need to be replaced.
I will be going with coil overs, so no need for replacement shocks or springs
All bushings will be replaced
Brake pads will go with a more agressive pad.
Fuel lines?
Turbo's I figure if they dont have reciepts for that, I might as well just go with ko4's.
Exhaust will be custom
Brake lines will probably need replacement
I'll probably go with bigger fuel injectors with the Ko4..
Might as well have the radiator checked and flush it while doing the water pump.
Shifter? Probably go with the short shifter a member is making. (is he in production yet?)
Also a good clutch to hold the extra power from the Ko4's
oh ya.. a chip (ooor stand alone, havent decided hehe) Duh..

Thats all stuff I was planning on doing to WHATEVER car I got.. so its not a big deal to me.

Now... What am I missing? I am a mechanic/fabricator/welder by trade, and have worked on my Porsche's the last 4 years. Im well qualified to do this...

DONT tell me just to look for a low milage car, I will ignore your post... lol
Car is being advertised for 6500... Which is why I want to know.. Oh ya.. clean title..

well thats a lot of miles...

of but seeing as youve got some mechanical experience & feel qualified...
I'd say go for it.

basic things like DV's TBB / F hose etc.should be looked at..
heres a great link w/ all types of S4 info...
takes a min to load...

See sticky at top of the page...

I would only replace parts that need to be replaced. Doing the brakes & wheel bearings are useless & a waste of money if there not needed.
Smart on the TB & water pump. It's a fair amount of labor to get in there. Also don't worry about the brake lines or fuel lines, they should be fine, the car is only 6yo.

You will need a chip to install bigger injectors. If you put in K04's you will need inlet pipes & hardware.

IMHO, it's much more important to...
Change ALL fluids (most are Audi "lifetime")
Change ALL filters, including the fuel filter (audi lifetime)
Change the plugs, do a pressure test, & pressure check the DV's

$6500 is a hell of a deal, but not if you have to dump $10k into it. I would only replace what is needed, and just wait for things to crap out.

I would not buy it esp at that mileage on a turbo vehicle. God knows how the previous owner(s) drove that car... if it's a N/A car, then it should be fine..but turbos...big no

I found out from the seller that one of the turbo's was bad.. Ok, not a big deal I was planning on putting k04's anyways.. That just means 2k out of pocket.

So now I know why the price is so low. I'll see about more maintenence history.. I might try to offer 6k.. And im thinking she'll take it cash..

2k S4, Good info.
I will be sure to replace all filters, spark plugs, and all those things. (unless of course the owner has paperwork saying its already done... but I doubt it because its not in the sellers description.

Any more tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Andrew

Ok heres an update.
It came from NJ, its not registered or smogged.
The interior is great, minous a section out of the pass seat.
It leaks oil, he said "a drip every 13 seconds or so when the gas is all the way down.." and he says it drips onto the exhaust, obviously causingsome smoke.

That means the seals would probably need to be gone through.. If im going to take out theengine for the turbo'swhy not do a top end rebuild, timing belt and water pump at the same time? How hard or expensive is a top end kit?OR where does the seals generally leak?

He said that the check engine light is not displayed, but the ABS light is on.. Probably just the sensor?

Price is at 6100 right now. But I have to sell another car to make room.
I still think its a great deal. Put a little money into it, and drive it till it needs something else...

Thanks
Andrew

sounds like cam seals. offer 5g's cash. another factor i dont think anyone mentioned is the body sag that comes with higher milage vehicles. because of all the miles the frame, welds, compenents naturally fatigue, so the car will not be as responsive as it once was. 175k is a lot of miles but an S4should be good for it as long as you keep it in check. good luck.

Good point.

Hmm cam seals, I'll check up on that.

Quick question, my dad is worried about scored cylinders.. Is that a major factor with these engine's? Im thinking of letting someone else worry about this car and go back to my original thoughts of a good lower milage a4..
