Default S4 - 2.7T or 4.2V8

I know I have seen this post before too. I have been searching for over a month now recently sold my 87 GN for about 15G's and have about 5G's more for 2nd vehicle. My current weekend ride is 01SSM6 camaro.
I originally wanted an 01.5 or 02 2.7T 6speed, but started leaning towards 04-05 V8 M6. I have been drag racing all my life, over 40 now. With just bolt-ons and DR have run 12.4 @ 113 w/ camaro. Buick was about the same w/ lower MPH -stock turbo.
I like the tunability of the bi-turbo, and I know it will be much more difficult than the GN to work on. But test drove an 05 M6 yesterday at local dealer, and he let me beat it a little, nice ride much smoother than the GM - German engineering. My only problem is I wish the clutch engaged a little harder, is that due to AWD? The cornering is nothing I have ever felt before, and I have ZO6 wheels with 305/35 18 on rearof the camaro.
I also wanted to know, how much slower is the auto compared to the M6 4.2 V8.I found an old R&T mag, that has the M6 = 0-60 5.0sec and 1/4 mile 13.6 @ 103.I know there is a big difference with the 2.7T S4's auto vs. M6.
My wife will be driving this vehicle too, she can drive the M6. Problem is she saw an A4 s-line 6 speed on the lot yesterday and of course she liked the A4 2.0T, and with the gas prices up .20 in last 2 weeks she is pushing for the A4. I guess I will need to stall a little.
I almost bought an 04 S4 last week, with 60,000+miles for only $21,000, but it was an early 04 with too many miles.
Thanks,
Greg

you'll have more problems with the B5.. if your wife wants power and reliability she/you should go for the B6/B7.
ya the a4 is alright... but that v8 is much more fun and better sounding!
But if she wants to take u in the 1/4.. get the B5 and go stage 3

I love Drag racing, but w/ 3 kids not as much time. Camaro staying for now, I'm the original owner only 22,000 miles, could just through on heads and cam for 2g's and run mid - low 11's if I get into drag racing again. We are just looking for another daily driver, always loved the Audi's. With budget cuts in Florida local Gov. no more take home vehicle for me. We also have an 07 Tahoe, but putting too many miles on it - wifes daily driver now, great on trips-DVD, Nav., &roomy-family of 5. We would share the Audi, she works much further than me, with 30+ mpg highway the A4 would be the economical choice, but with the 6 speed S4 I would be happy w/ 23mpg highway better than 13-18 mpg avearge w/ the tahoe. I guess I'm finally growing up and want a more refined fast car, and BMW's are out of the question for me, too many down here, and believe it or not my wife is also not a fan of BMW.
Thanks again,
Greg

Are you sure your getting your facts straight?

An M6 has a V10 engine and has an SMG transmission. These lines below makes it sound like your drove an M6 in a stick.

I picked up a 2005 4.2 auto last fall w/17k for $38,000. If you want low miles you have to pay. Im in the same shoes as you, my girlfriend has to drive this car also so......awd for her ( I live in Chicago so it sucks when it snows ), 340hp for me! And yes, its very fast. Off the line(trac ctrl off.)really takes off, passing on the highway is great as well. If you really wanted to you can add a few small mods if you just have to get your hands dirty like an ecu upgrade, exhaust and intake. I have done my research and for the $2000 that you would spend to go a bit faster, not so sure. Hope that this hepls. Good luck!

The BMW M6 is available in a manual transmission too, btw. Less common but none the less...

M6 w/ 500hp manual 7 speed would be nice, but not for 70-80G's used!! I think I will be purchasing a 04 or 05 S4 6 speed, still under warrenty. But I have read somewhere that the early 04 had some issues? Can youtellfrom the VIN # or carfax when car was delivered? Currently looking at 04 locally.
Thanks,
Greg
