My b6 has averaged 18.8 mpg over the 22k miles (and one year) that I have owned it. That is probably 80% highway driving.
And yes...downpipes and catback on teh v8 sound great. I highly recommend it!

Thanks for the info.

What do you estimate is the "unrestricted" top end of the S4?

I don't really know. I saw a post on another site that a guy claimed he was at 167mph and 800rpm below redline. Personally I think that is just crazy to try on a public road.

I've owned both and the B6 is hands down superior. I do a lot of city driving and get 14-15 mpg. I did the same in my B5 and got 17-18. You shouldn't buy either with gas mileage as a high priority. Get a Subaru if you want that.

Ehinelaw, drop the attitude, I never intend to drive this flat out however it doesn t stop me wanting to know what its top end is.

Personaly i like the B5 much better because im into modding the car. a b6 would be better for a daily driver that has some nice power IMO, although im sure most of the people n this forum drive their modded cars daily. I only take out my B5 on the weekends

i have had a demon egging me on since last Nov. Love that bastard. i took off the conti sport contact 2 in the first two weeks to get dunlop m3 winter sport "monsters"! for the past 5 months, i have almost hated having an audi for the fact everyone else doesn't; that jerkoff on the top of the snow covered road with summer tires in March almost got ramrodded.
