S4 B5 Battery Relocation
I'm not entirely sure, but I want to move it to the back of the car for better weight distribution. I figure since I'm buying another battery I might as well do it all in one fell swoop. So far I've bought 4 gauge wiring, distribution block, terminals, terminal covers, and an optima battery holder. I'm waiting for everything to come in. Again, if anyone knows a good rout where I can go from the stock battery location to the trunk of the car with my run, please post up. Thank you!
You'll have to run at least 2 ga wire. The run is a lot farther than stock location. You don't want any voltage drop. Get welding cable. It's more flexible, and carries voltage/amperage with nearly no drop. Solder all your connections (it'll take lots). Even the cable ends. Shrink wrap everything to keep them weatherproof.
I ordered everything already for 4 gauge wire. Everything is coated, I am using really good quality wire, and I am using a power distribution block to make a super nice connection. I have a digital readout for the terminal so I'll be able to see any voltage drops right away, and if thats what is going to happen w/ 4 gauge then I'll switch to 2 gauge, but I'm going to try it w/ 4. I do have one more question:
How many amps should I put for the battery/alternator/main fuse? I think I'm going to go w/ 100, but does anyone know what an Audi has stock?

If you want you can run your wire inside the car, go in through the firewall under the dash and run it along the side of the car under trim panals. Then you can come up under the back seat, thats what i did when i installed my amp.
Inside the car eh? Okay, think I'll do that... As for putting it in the wheel well... I dunno exactly... I am going to buy 2, 1 foot by 1 foot sub enclosures and move them up as far as I can to the end of the trunk (nearest the seats) and then I want to fabricate something that will go in between the subs and connect the boxes and put the battery inside of it. I know that one of the best places is as low as you can go, but another good place is toward the center of the car as much as possible, since the car is front heavy that would be around the rear axle... Inside the car eh? Also I am going to be cutting the spare hole completely out and welding a flat piece of metal across, plus some under body work will be going on. (I have my reasons) Did you cut a hole in your firewall or is there one in there already that goes inside the car? I opened this German car up inside and let me tell you, I don't know what I am looking at. This sucker is SO different from my S13 project...
SilverAudiS4, if you could, would you be so kind as to post up some pics of where that firewall hole is and where you came out in the dash? I'd be most grateful. Anyone know where I can snag a factory service manual for this bad boy? There are places online that say SURE, here it is, now give me 70 bucks... I'd really rather not, so anyone know where I can snag one?

I've got a service manual scanned and .pdf'd on my hard drive. Hit me up on AIM and I'll send it to you. It's a .zip file that is like 98 mb. Can't email it cuz it's too big.
Why you doing under body work? Planning on a hidden compartment to smuggle cocaine? LOL.
