S4 chip...

S4 chip...
hi..i had an A4 i just bought an s4 2001 and the difference is HUGEEEE....however im still not happy, i still cant beat m3 or sti, on track maybe... but how can upgrade my engine??? for 1000$ i think the chip is the best and cheapest way but will it damage my engine on a long term??
there is a lot of different opinion on that...i really dont know who to trust..someone has any experience wis chip??
