Gotta agree with Blue_S4 but in a different way. I would gladly put my 06 GTO against any Stock BMW or Audi or mercedes for that matter. The GTO costs 30K new. If you put half the difference in money into a GTO you would have a car that was pure non-sense. The motor for the M5 costs as much as the GTO. For 30K you can build a 1000 hp engine that will actually last longer than the M5. If you don't believe me look at a lingenfelter package. They are alittle over priced because of labor and a few unnecessary aesthetic add-ons, but you can get the point from their stuff.

Bottom line is it comes down to money. If your willing to spend 85k-100K on a performance car why would you buy a M5 or M6? Buy an American car and put the remainder of your money ( 70k) into making it a car that only you own. Even if you don't wrench your on your own car 70k will get you way more than you could have in a BMW. And that includes luxury and handling.

All your doing by buying an expensive german performance car new is buying the brand name. I'm all for buying one used at a more reasonable price. Thats why I'm buying a B5 S4. Also its the only car worth **** in the snow that doesn't run on sticky rice. (Yum... sticky rice...)

oh god if it was a B7 S4 ya that car will never win. Slow as hell. Stage 3 B5 would probably win though hands down.

I agree with you on alot of things but i also think comparing a heavily modified car to a stock car is nonsense in this situation. That GTO is also a 2 door when we were comparing 2 big sedans? Also i should point out the gto is a Holden built in austraila then shipped over here and badged as a GTO. Dont fool yourself into thinking your "helping support american jobs" or some BS by buying an american car. The z06 has the same steering wheel as my dads chevy 2500 HD for gods sake. Our 99-02 cars have a better interior hands down.

Most owners dont want to buy a gto and turn it into a money pit. All new interior to match the sense of fit finish and quality achieved in german luxury saloons, all that motor work for the 1000 hp you speak of. Plus once you get there you have no traction, and cant go around a corner half as well as an rs6. Exterior looks are purely your prefrence.

Lingenfelter stuff is in alot of corvette enthusiasts wet dreams. Its a very nice and well put together package, and if corettes were my thing that would be my wet dream too. BUT once again heavily modified and price is upwards of $270,000, i could have a fleet of german saloons with that. or hell a twin turbo heffner gallardo for less than $240,000.

We think differently on this

Ya they make more tq because they have a larger displacement, larger cylinder/piston diameter, and can combust more fuel at one time. Iv driven a C5 Z06 ***** to the wall (same 405HP v8 i believe, unless the caddy uses the c6 400HP base motor) and yeah its great fun but BMW's 500HP V10 is still a smaller displacement by over a liter and probably weighs less while producing more power. American cars do it the easy way, more power? 7 liters then!

Small displacement, lots of cylinders, High Reving, High Horsepower euros FTW. I hate to use BMW as my example but their v10 is top notch and the new v8 is amazing, i also commend their return to forced induction on a v6 AND v8. Audis RS4 V8 is just as good IMO, and audi is developing a high reving V10 for the new R8 and hopefully more cars. Lets not forget that because audi is a parent company of lamborghini they have access to the the LP560 and LP640 motors...
HP, you're making this too easy. Before you bring an argument to the table know your facts. The motor they are using in the CTS-V is the ZR1 motor (the LS9 block a 6.2 Liter supercharged by a four lobe eaton blower) the same motor that set the new track record at Nuremberg. GM's C6 Z06 (the LS7 block a 7.0L) is capable of revving over 8000 RPM on race tunes, it just makes more power around 7000 than 8000 you need to put in a different cam.) the thing about our cars is the money it is way more expensive for us to make 1000 HP than for a GM motor to make 1000 HP. I will be pushing almost 30lbs in my s4 when its finished, with 23 pounds in a 427 your making way over 1,000 HP. I will be lucky to be 550 to the wheels with methanol injection.

I'm not sure where your getting $270K from. My Point was that if you want a car for performance don't buy an expensive German car. Buy an american car with big displacement and use that extra money to make it 10 times better than the german car (performance wise). German cars are great if you want a car that is extremely comfortable and has some sportiness, just don't say that a $100K German car is a better buy for performance than a $30K american car with mods.

I know the GTO is really just a Vauxhaul Monaro. That wasn't my point. If I wanted a car that gave americans jobs I'd buy a Honda. If you don't get it look it up. Honda employs the most americans out of any car company in the world.

As far as a money pit I'm not sure if you mean doing all the mods? Or reliability?

Hp, I know that there are plenty of places where I could make just as much horsepower, or more than the packages that lingenfelter offers. The thing about lingenfelter is the warrenty. They have full coverage for 3 years or 36,000 miles on some of their stuff. 270,000 is not an accurate number for your typical package isn't even over $48,000 you may know your stuff about Audi HP but you have some studying to do about GM products.

the Car and Driver on my coffee table states the base price as $272,040 and price as tested as $288,540. that includes the car. And they even give you a breakdown of where your money went! Dont tell me i dont know what im talking about while you talk out your ***. Before i typed that i went and found the magazine. I dont like posting misinformation. Heres the breakdown.

Engine Trans - $186,515
Suspension - $4390
Brakes - $6440
Wheels Tires - $9005
Body Interior - $16,500

I said the lingenfelter is a nice PACKAGE, i know its warenteed thats why i said its a nice PACKAGE not kit. Still anyone can throw $186,000 at a cars engine and get 1000 hp. Its nothing special. Also you dont even make full boost untill 4th gear because you wouldnt have a smowballs chance in hell at putting the power to the ground.

C6 z06 redlines at 6500 rpm, dont bring modified into this because any engine can be modified even ours to run at 10,000rpm

I also said nothing about whats better for performance because thats not the only thing people look for. I said fit, finish, quality, and luxury saloon. Hardly hinting at a 1000HP dyno or drag queen. Lets not forget power isnt the same as performance. I like useable power and traction. Ya if i wanted cheap horsepower i probably would have gotten a 390HP Cobra or a GTO instead of a chipped S4, they were both in my price range. which do you think is faster? But still which is nicer?

I dont care about modified cars, top gear isnt testing every modified car in the world because that would be pointless. Lets keep this to factory cars.

Yes the Zr1 is a beast but i predict within the next year audi will release a coupe that will beat its time. Quote me on this! V10 R8.

The first generation of the CTS-v had the 400HP motor, second gen has the zr1 motor. Your actually right the new CTSv is 9 seconds quicker around the ring than the new RS6, but not every lap is recorded and theres alot of talk about an rs4 doing it in 7:58, 1 second quicker than the caddy.

If you take it to the ring and beat the **** out of it to get the fastest time theres allways something that will be faster. In the end i want a car that not only offers some good performance, but some luxury and comfort for the ride home too. I dont and will never need 1000hp

IM not arguing that a bigger motor wont make more power, as the sayng goes theres no replacement for displacement. Were talking about factory cars here. Im just saying that i would prefer a 5.0L V10 with an 8250 redline from the factory over a 7.0L V8 with a 6500 rpm redline, assuming both make the same power (500HP).

Especially when one interior looks like this

And another like this

way to look up an old *** corvette interior from the late 90's and compare it with a new Audi. I personally think this looks pretty damn good.

My point wasn't that luxury cars aren't nice, its just that you can't compare 2 cars that have such large price differences. Its like when top gear compared the Z06 to the Ferrari f430. The Z06 out performed the Ferrari, but they chose the Ferrari as the better car because it was all around nicer. No **** it was nicer, it was 4 times the price.
