Default S5 w/ Tiptronic- any good?

Hello, I'm new to the forums and have a couple questions. I am looking at purchasing an S5 with a tiptronic tranny for my wife (if the car was for me I would have already purchased a manual version). I love the car, its very beautiful- there best design yet imo. The interior is very well tailored and comfortable. We tested a manual version last weekend and it had me sold, but the dealer did not have an auto on hand and we live 150mi away from the closest dealer. My wife doesn't care what car we buy as long as it's an automatic. How well does the tiptronic work, is it pleasant and well mannered, are there any known problems. It sure adds a nice chunk to the price. My first choice was a 6-series BMW, but they have clunky autos too, and the dreaded i-drive (otherwise I would probably have a new M5 or M6). thanks in advance for the info, and i hope to become a regular here- this would be the first Audi I've owned!

i dont have the pleasure to have driven the s5 (or a5 for that matter) but all tiptronic audis ive driven have been well mannered and pleasant. i have sat in both the a/s5's and the 6 series bmw's and i honestly prefer the audi. the 6series is terribly claustrophobic inside. the dash kind of seems to encroach into what should be leg space. just my 2 cents

Thanks ilack, for the reply. I have decided to purchase an S5 with tiptronic. Prestige Audi of Denver has located me one in Phoenix that almost exactly matches what i want for options. The car is used with 3,800 mi on it, why I don't know. All I know is that its gonna save me almost 10k, so thats nice. Its Meteor Grey (i hope its not too close in color to my "cyber grey" vette, ya never know just by looking at pics- the cyber grey was way lighter than i thought it was going to be), I hope its as dark in person as it is in the pics. I'm flying to Denver the 26th to pick the car up and drive it home, which should be a good chance to really shake it down before I have to hand the keys over I'll have some pics next week of my journey home. Until then, later days.
