Title kinda says it all; but do you need to upgrade any engine internals to safely handle 450hp? Or just upgrade the turbos, fuel supply, clutch, transmission, and go?

You should be all right running 450hp with stock internals but prepare to replace the drivetrain.

Not trying to highjack the thread...

Following the logic of upgrading items for stage three, has anyone found the need to upgrade the driveshafts, or cv shafts? Or even lighting them up by switchingto carbon fiber?

I don't see it as necessary. Everything in my car is OEM in the driveline, except I broke each of the front shafts once at the drag strip on launching. I think it was due to wheel hop ( my suspension is a little soft and the car was shaking). I haven't had a problem on my last 10 track visits. I also rebuilt the trans at 89k with new synchros and a new 1-2 shift collar, the internals are stock.

Here is what the axles looked like when I broke them. Got some thicker shafts made that I will eventually try, so far I am just running used stock ones. Like I said wheel hop and nasty launches are the only killer with my 100s of quarter mile passes in my car.

I think you could duct tape that shaft back together..!

jaybquick - who made your aftermarket driveshafts? are the stock ones aluminium?

Thanks,

Shawn

Jay B - I heard that some of the guys added Audi 100 shafts because they were stronger and they worked great. Just a thought.

I may need to shorten the CV shafts, so that is why I'm asking where or who made them.

The stock are steel. I went with a thicker tube and larger diameter as well. I had my local driveshaft shop do it. I just took the cv joints off and gave them the metal part only. I have considered selling them along with my shifters and linkage upgrades.

Yup, that is what that guy in europe does on his 9 second S4. I think the shaft will work, you just swap over the joints. Never bothered trying to locate them.
