Default Should it come out of the oil cap...?

So I took in the S to a local shop to try and diagnose this "fluttering" vac. syndrome I've been having (since the dealer was of absolutely NO help, other than to charge me $125 for the diagnostic). So they hook up to my Y-pipe what looks to be a VAST-style boost leak detector, and proceed to pressurize my system. Unfortunately (well, fortunately really, but a simple boost leak would've been nice) the only air leaking out came from the oil cap... And obviously when he turned/adjusted the cap the noise would get louder (like letting the air out of a balloon).
So my question is: Air really shouldn't be going through the intake and charging the crank case, should it??? That usually means the rings are bad, unless the 2.7T is built differently... Or did the air just divert cylinder through the lubricant channels back to the crank case?
I kinda figured the guy was using a bit too much pressure, but did he mess something up? It was burning blue/white smoke out the back for a good 5-10 minutes afterwards (which I figured was just oil blown into the combustion chambers), but then finally went away

Well, some air is going to leak past the throttle plate. Seeps past the intake valves, or the engine has stopped with an open set(s). Air is going to pass into the combustion chamber and slowly leak past the rings into the case. I wouldn't start pointing fingers at the rings right away, somecompression leakingpast the rings is going to happen. How much pressure did he put the tester too?
