Skipping at high RPMs
2002 S4, APR Chip.....in second gear on the way home today, and got on it to pass a couple cars when it suddenly bucked. Took it on some long roads near the house to open it up and it seems to skip (not sure how else to explain it) at high RPMs (around 4.5 to 5.5). I was able to recreate it in both 2nd and 3rd. Doesn't seem to happen in 1st but I'm assuming the other gears would do the same (the roads aren't that long). Not consistent though...doesn't happen all the time...maybe 50%. Nothing unusual with the car....did have it at the car wash the other day but no water would have went under the hood. Thoughts?
Sounds like an EGT sensor failing. Did you check for codes? It usually won't throw a CEL if the failure is intermittent, so it wouldn't surprise me if you have a bad EGT and no CEL.
Scan for codes and then post back the results.

I had a similar problem but it was my coilpack. Like said before check and see if you have any misfire codes. If the misfire is on one cylinder try swapping the coilpack around to another cylinder and see if the code follows it.... then you know it's a bad coilpack.
Update......brought the car into the shop and the codes indicated a bad O2 and EGT sensor. I replaced the O2 and didn't have the money for the EGT. The thing is, the problem seems to have gone away. Apparently fixed by the new O2 sensor. Should I worry I'm stilling throwing an EGT code but the car doesn't show any symptoms??? Don't want to spend the money on the EGT sensor if I don't need to.
