Snow tires?
So I just moved to Colorado and my street tires aren't cutting it. I'm sliding all over the place in the snow. To those of you that regularly drive in the snow, what tires do you reccomend?
The car is a stock 01' s4.
Thanks fellas.

I was always under the impression-quattro all wheel drive-never going to get stuck. Never more farther from the truth. After repeatedly getting stuck in my car, a 2000 S4, I went out and bought Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 snow tires. Some of the best money I have ever put into the car. I went everywhere in those tires, even plowed the driveway for one of my family members X5(snow was higher than the hood of the car and I was going uphill).
I am a strong proponent of snow tires. There are a bunch of of people on here that talk about 4 wheel drive and how the S4 will go anywhere, but it won't, trust me. I love the car, and with these tires I can go anywhere.
Remember, 4 wheel drive don't mean 4 wheel go-one of the best quotes I have ever heard. And if you are looking for a more performance based blizzak go with the lm-22

Thanks for the response. How well do the Blizzak's help you stop? Right now i'm not having any problems driving uphill. Its the downhill that gets me. I just keep sliding and have no control, even atvery slowspeeds. A few days ago I slid into the oncoming lane and almost nailed a new cadillac. The car is garaged until this gets resolved. lol

Are studded tires legal anymore? Anyway, buy the snows, take it easy, and the control and stopping will be astoundingly better. Check the Tire Rack site, they have tests of snows vs. performance summers, night and day. If you get into a wreck with those perf. summer tires, the chances are good that the police report will mention your tires as being insufficient and you could be at fault. I've seen it happen, then your insurance will go up, big time. Plus, it's fun to be able to climb hills and manuver better than the SUV's that think their all seasons are all they need, as your performance car is STILL better, faster, looks cooler, and safer from rollover!
nokian snows are very nice but also probably a bit more money than others. studded tires are illegal in some states... my brother had them when he moved home from montana and i made him peelout at night constantly just to see the sparks
