Now i am into the newer v8 s4's the only questions I have is which is better and what numbers do the v8's yeild quarter mile 0-60 modding capabilites and so on..
I am comming out of an ownership with an mustang and I want something more reliable and grown up so to speak, I like german so i am willing to give audis a shot. ( more an porsche bmw mb kinda guy)

Well the B5 S4'a are the ones with the twin turbo V6 and the B6's are the V8s. The V8s put out about 344hp while the the V6's are 250 Stock. I own a B5 but have driven my dads B6's Love em both. Drive one of each and see what you think of them.
Never modded the 8, but I know things like exhaust on the 6 is quite pricey (turbo back) I think most German cars will be more expensive to mod just because of the quality. With the 8, you are starting with nearly 100 more HP. But for about 600 bucks you can get a GIAC chip for the 6 that boosts it +60hp and + 110tq, then an exhaust that has shown 20+ WHP for about 1k. so for like $1600 you can gain maybe 80-90 HP and 120+tq.
Putting numbers around 330-340 hp and 378-390 TQ. From what I have been told.

Not nearly the same. 20hp/tq for a chip the same price. 14hp/tq for an exhaust and 9 for downpipes. But, remember you would be starting with 344. So that would be like 390 but spending a lot more. I figured about 4 grand (at full pricing) would put me at 370 hp / 400ish tq.
I own a B6 S4, and while I love it for what it is in stock form, if I were more inclined to want to heavily upgrade and attain some real heights in performance, I would start with a B5. They say there's no replacement for displacement, but "they" weren't taking into consideration what one can achieve with forced induction, and so far the B5 has shown itself to be much more conducive to that line of upgrade. Also, chassis-wise I would say that the B5 platform is every bit as capable as the B6, and the bits seem to be much more readily available.
IMHO, FWIW...
