Supra owner interested in an S4
Ahh where do I start...
First I'll begin by saying what's up to everyone on here. I've been on supraforums for a few years and have owned 3 wonderful supras, but it just seems time to move on. Yes, 99.9% of supra owners go to vipers, z06's, etc. I want something all wheel drive, turbo, (or twin turbo ;) ) and fun to drive. Now, this doesn't narrow it down to just the S4. A few months back I sold my black bpu 6 speed 400 whp supra for a wrx sti. Wasn't a big fan of the sti, being that it had an exhaust leak, few interior things I didn't like, etc. I decided to sell and I purchased a 752 whp @ 24psi single turbo 6 speed supra. I have already blown 2 motors on this car, and if I DON'T get a free new one under warranty, which I most likely won't, then I probably will move on to an S4. I feel like I'm wasting all of your time here, so I'll get to the point. I have heard yes's and no's on s4's..some say the k04 turbos go bad after a while, or that once you start modding you are sacrificing reliablity. However, isn't it like that on virtually every car? Point is, I want a car that's not going to give me headaches anymore, but is gonna give me almost as much of a thrill as I've had driving my supras. I am interested in purchasing hopefully an 02 (I want the last year of the b5 body) and I want to right off the bat GIAC chip it and borla catback. I would love to upgrade to a GT25 turbo, but what starts to go on these engines with mods like this?? My MAIN question: Will I be getting into just as many headaches with an S4 than with my supra? Is 400whp attainable and safe at the same time on these motors?? Sorry if I've asked questions that have been answered before. I know, you can all yell at me to use the SEARCH feature which I have been doing on some of my questions that I wanted answered. I just want a first hand response, especially if there are any former supra owners on here. |

I don't know bro. You are going from a 2dr Japanese full sports car to a 4dr German sedan. Mods or not, things are going to be a lot different. It won't accelerate, handle or brake like a Supra - but if you are tired of Supras, then maybe that is good for you.

RE: Supra owner interested in an S4
sheesh..where to begin on that.. pturbo has some valid points there. your going to get a different kind of acceleration.. your going to get a much quicker acceleration off the start..but the supra would pull much harder higher up. the s4 is a finnicky car. Stock, there are a few problems. however, i feel wiht modding (obviously to a point) that your car is actually getting stronger. the k04's are a pretty reliable turbo and ive only heard of a few going bad. the k03 (stock) turbo is usually something to worry about along with the throttle body boot tearing and ypipe and a few other things that youd replace in your upgrades make it a strong car. it has strong internals.. But you get to higher modding your obviously going to have issues along with any car. i personally love it i guess itd have to be a personal choice. ive driven an sti before and have to say id take an s4 over it hands down. especially a modified one.

RE: Supra owner interested in an S4
I can't stress enough how hard this is. Supras are gorgeous cars..I've loved every minute of ownership of all of them (yes even when the engine blew twice). I drive my buddy's 01 silver a4 around every once in a while and I'm like wow, the cockpit doesn't smell like gasoline, it doesn't wake up the entire neighborhood when I come in, and it's a great base to start throwin modifications around in.
If I do make the decision to get an s4, I will be quite picky. I wanna go for the white or the nogaro blue. Absolutely has to be a 6 speed. I really would like the alcantara suede interior, however I have only seen it on a couple nogaro blues, and an imola yellow. I understand alcantara was an available option for all colors?? Ehh, I guess I'll just have to keep searching. I'm not looking for a 700 hp car anymore. However, I am positive I would mod the hell out of the S4. Started looking around for some parts shops to see what there is to work with, found one called Euro Styles East?? http://www.eurostyleseast.com Anyways I'll let you all know what's up. I am kind of hoping to keep the supra, but if I can't get an engine under warranty then maybe that's just a little fate for me to get an audi s4 biturbo 6 speed :) |

you gotta use that format for images... but nice looking ride man. I acn tell you got some good taste based on what you want for an s4... but believe me.. Its NOT easy to come by in either of those combinations... |
RE: Supra owner interested in an S4
in my opinion the S4 would a better car, altho it would feel a lot different to the Supra the S4 is better in general

RE: Supra owner interested in an S4
damn sooks, your car is probably exactly what I would be looking for. 2002 is the last year in the "b5" I believe?? I did SOME reading up on here, not a whole lot though. By sport, what does that include? Sport seats? Alcantara?
I have been browsing the vehicles for sale forum on here and there aren't too many s4's. Any other s4 sites that have some for sale?? Ebay sucks, cars.com and autotrader aren't too bad. I'd rather pick up a car off of a forum though, just so I know the person that owned it cared for it and knows their shit. Thanks for the comments and replies guys. I'm looking to spend around 25 max on the car, (which, I should be able to find a pretty nice s4 with that,) and then have about 5 in mods just to start. We'll see what happens :) |
RE: Supra owner interested in an S4
haha, thanks man. Yes, sport means alcantera. It has the blue suede inserts as well as the aluminum mirror housings. And trust me, it was a hard find. I looked for several months.. Mostly what i wanted was the sport package, it had to have that, and then i was perferring either black or nogaro. So, i kinda lucked out on that. Try different forums for cars. good ones would be www.audiworld.com
www.audizine.com Those will probably have your most and most frequent s4's. But dont discount ebay or the other ones. I actually found mine on ebay, though i bought it through the party seperately. I believe there may be a casa stage 3 s4 on audizine right now. think hes asking 27, may be flexible. |
RE: Supra owner interested in an S4
Just found that one.
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...hreadid=102401 Very nice car, but I'm not too sure I want to pick up someone else's project. I did that with this supra, and it has caused me nothing but headaches from shit that wasn't installed properly, and ghetto--rigged, etc. How hard is it to find a set of seats with the alcantara?? I'd like to do the black/white alcantara setup in a white s4. Also, random question: I don't see many S4's with front mounted intercooler setups. Even with the K04 turbo upgrades, is there a significant power loss?? I don't understand how one large front mount isn't more effective then the resistant stock intercooler..the pipes to me wouldn't seem that much longer. I understand why on an STI, just don't see why on these cars.. 351 whp sounds semi-low to me. Although I am stuck in supraland where 900 hp is average nowadays, people running 5 inch exhausts n shit haha (I have full 4"). I don't mean to bombard with questions. I guess the only way for me to shut myself up would be to buy one and find out what the car is really like. Just unsure if I'm going to let go of my supra yet. I guess I'll have to see some pix of some beautiful done up S4's to sway my opinion.. |
