Suspension Noise - Springs
Hi guys,
I own a 1995 S6 with about 100K on it. I decided to finally dump the wishy washy stock suspension recently for a set of shocks from Bilstein mated with H&R springs. Everything was dandy for about 2 months but recently I am getting a groaning or rattling type of noise in two different driving situations.
I had the dealership tear the suspension apart and we have it narrowed to the springs making noise. Regular driving (highway) doesn't cause this, but heavy bumps and the heavy maneuvers moving in/out of praking will cause noise. Maneuvering will cause a groan, the heavy bumps will cause some noise in whatever corner of the car is going over the bump, either a rattling type noise or a creaking/knocking type of noise.
The suspension appears tight, but the noise bothers me. Have any of you guys ever had something like this? If so, what was the solution. I have a call into TAP (where I got the suspension stuff) already but I thought I would check around.
As a point of reference I did a suspension set up from TAP sometime ago for my 1990 Coupe Quattro and I have put almost 200k on it since with no noise from the suspension at all, so I am a bit surprised and disappointed.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Ed

I have a similar noise from the front passenger side of my 2000 S4 right now. Turned out to be a tie-rod that would not stay tight and is causing a slight rattle/bang type sound under certain bumps and cornering situations. Might look at those.
