Default Test driving a 2004 S4 what to look out for?

Hello All,

I will be test driving next week a 2004 S4 6 speed with 90K miles. so a few things to question.

1) does anyone have any experience with this type of car and if so what should I look out for or ask if any certain maintence was done?
2) anyone have any personal story's or know how about this car? is it a good purchase?
3) are Audi owners as smart as everyone says they are?

I look forward to the answers. Thanks!

hmmm.. that's alot of miles...

sorry to say but i've had lots of problems with my 4.2.... more than 20,000 in repairs from audi.... all covered under warranty.... just look to see if regular maitnance has beenprefomed regulary... take a look at suspension bushings and what not... clutch replacement? timing chain?

+1 Thats almost too many miles, might as well buy a 2.7! I would recommend finding an 04/5 with under 50k miles so youre eligible for an extended warranty. At 90k things will start to go wrong and it would be nice to have it covered. Have them inspect the clutch for what kind of wear it has. Only maintenance ive had is an oil change , knock on wood.

Whats the asking price?

That's really not a bad deal IMO, 90k isn't that many miles.

And you mentioned you've had $20k+ in repairs? What have you had done? You could replace the engine and transmission for that price and still have money left over to buy a bunch of other crap.

If someone is going to sell you a 2004 for 12k with 90k miles, I say jump on it. Even if you don't want it, you could flip it for way more than 12k.

Get a carfax on the car and go to an Audi dealer with the VIN and have them pull the service history of the car. Be careful of deals that sound too good to be true.

Ran a car fax and it turned up clean.

So last Saturday I drove 1 1/2 hours to see this guy's car. The s4 was very nice and handled like a dream. even with 100k miles it still felt very strong.

However, the guy would not MOVE on price. He is set at $16,950. This guy seemed rich and doesnt NEED the money so he isnt motivated to sell.

He said he did put on a new exhaust system and that this S4 came with a "sports" package which had tighter suspension tires yadda yadda yadda...

anyway, is it worth the 17k now? It drove great, and the shifting was pleasant.
