Default Timing belt to do or not

Well right now I have 73000 miles and was going to get the timing belt replaced this spring ,but I was looking at my warranty which covers the car another 2 years 9 months and if it were to break or fail it would be covered and so would anything damaged by it breaking. So if its to be replaced at 90000 miles per audi and breaks before I`m covered. Do I replace or not ? What do you think? I would rather buy an exhaust. Oh yea this car is not a daily driver just weekends.

catch 22 question? if you dont stick to the manufacturer warranty you could invalidate your extended warranty and as its a 2001 does it really matter because the manufacture warranty is for 1 to 3 years apart from body work/perforation rust which is 10 years approx, what does your warranty cover? a bad timing belt at such low miles and the age of the car would be a conflict"my advice is change the timing belt and have the tension /water pump checked" I hate these extended warranties because they dont tell all and in most cases are worthless

Just get it done, it needs it anyway.

Mostly likely, if it did break, you would get a used engine, or other used parts.

If it was me I would wait tospend that $1K for as long as it's under warranty. Who knows, you may decide to sell the car before it comes out of warranty (hope not) or based on how long you end up keeping it that extra 20K miles may be the difference between doing it once or having to pay to do it twice. You just have to accept what happens if it does go at any time. Tough call....

with some extended warranties, i believe they can deny paying for work done due to negligence...

other things might break if your timing belt goes out...

so you're better off getting it done... unless you have plans on getting rid of the car soon.

Timing belt is probably considered a "wearable" item, so you may want to be sure your warranty covers it should it break and cause damage. As a service writer for a Nissan dealer, I know we don't warranty timing belt unless it was during the 3 yr 36k mile bumper to bumper. Most extended warranty companies arnt' going to cover a timing belt or any other belt, especially at 70k plus miles...

If it is covered then i wouldn't worry about it.

"Bumper to Bumper" is such a joke. They should call it the "Stuff thatwe're confident won'tbreak" warrenty. I've had so much crap not covered on other vehicles that I never buy the extended warrenty anymore.
