timing belt service, clutch, and APR bi-pipe
Hey whats up im kind of new to the forums, allthough i have been browsing around here for quite some time reading. I have a late model 2001 s4 with about 56,000 miles on it, it has Borla exhaust, APR chip, and a couple other small things. My tbb has been replaced, and i have 710n's although i think they might be leaking.
I finally am starting to have some money that i can spend on my car, so eventually over the course of the next year or 2 my goal is to go stage 3 with the AWE K04 kit. I was also planning on going with the AWE intercoolers. I want a tune thats reliable at about 400HP. I am planning on using the RS4 clutch for its stock like drivability, and because i know im never going to replace the K04's with gt series turbos for mor HP. There seem to be so many options for downpipes, are all capable of easily producing the 400HP i am looking for? If so does any one company have a much better reputation as far as quality?
My Local german performance tuning company (DTM Autowerks, Milford NH) took a quick look at my car, and told me that because iv had the car at stage 2 with an increase in boost for a significant part of its life i should proably do the timing belt soon. Seeing as i want to put more performance parts into the car to increase power, iv decided to do it before i go any further. I have also read about the APR bi-pipe and it seems like a good product, but is this somehting i could keep on my car as i go stage 3 without haveing any problems? RS4 up pipes and bipipe are almost $1000. Thats a big price difference.
As well as timing belt, what else should i replace or think about replacing as part of servicing the car? I have read that a private garage will charge less than an audi dealership for timing belt, but what would be an unreasonable quote, is $1000 too high? And if i do the bi-pipe at the same time?
So after probably a few too many agressive take offs my clutch has started to slip a bit and im going to replace it right away with the rs4 clutch. On the awe tuning website they also have a lightweight aluminum flywheel, is this a good product? If its somehting i plan on getting in the future should i install it now with the clutch and possibly save on installation costs? Or is the product just not worth the money. What would i expect to pay for installation and the $500 clutch?
Im calling DTM tomorrow to get prices, I want to get the clutch(maybe flywheel if i decide it would be benificial), timing belt and associated service, and bi pipe. I just wanted to get a ballpark first to know if the pricing is high or low.
Additionally im going to be buying a new turbo timer to replace my broken greddy one, this time im going with A'PEXi. My 710n DV's tend to leak, often when i shift i hear a hissing, like it is a blow off valve, so i have decided to replace them with 2 Samco Dump valves. Im also looking at the AWE DTS and a short shifter. Im not so much interested in an extremely choped down shifter with a ton of reduction, and i am looking for somehting smooth and solid that feels good to shift, and shift quickly. Has anyone ever heard of the JHM short shifters? I know theres B+M , toy guy, etc. which would be good. I want to combine this with either the DTS or new engine mounts and transmission mounts to get less movement in the shifter. Whats the best way to to do this?
Thanks

I just got off the phone with DTM Autowerks and the quote they gave me for the timing belt, tensioners, pullys, water pump, etc. was $1200. The owner/manager wasnt in today (turns out theyre actually closed today) so i couldnt get a price for the rs4 clutch or anything else, but i have him a list of the stuff i was interested in, and theyre going to call me back in the morning. They are very nice and love audis and VW. last time I was in there they had 3 2.7T engines form s4's pulled and were working on them. They were also doing all the work for a silver GT28 turbo S4, with a big FMIC.

Thats actualy where my car was chipped, had the suspension parts installed, and had the borla exhaust installed. I heard that some af the audi mechanics left Status and started their own shop in portsmouth? Maybe thats wrong though. The problem is that right now im going to collge in Montana, and obviously the car is in sothern NH, so i cant physically go and talk to anyone untill december. Iv hard good stuff about Status and if you say its good ill listen. Is that his cell number or the number to the shop? If you say its better ill have it all done there definitly. Its only about 25 miles form my house.
honestly he is the best.... yes your right one of the mechanics had left ,but not to open his own shop ,he went to work for vw (where the money is basically)..but its alright cause now tony has sterling who used to be at northern european in concord is now with tony at status and he is also one of the best mechanics in new hampshire him and tony are unstopable with the capabilites...i def highly recomend them ..that is the only place i let touch my car for ANYTHING.. a little expensive but you get what you pay for and it is worth every penny to have people that know what they are doing working on your expensive car..have it done the first time around you know what i mean...
good luck and the number i gave you is the shop number and ask for tony..
