has anyone experienced a clunk in the tranny/rear when lighty getting back on the gas after coasting?

depends on how bad the clunk is it could be a worn out but not uncommon because the engine and transmission has to flex a little

Sounds like bad mounts to me.
Check the snub, engine & trans mounts, one or all might be going bad.
