Default tire fiting

do any of yall know if you can put tires from stock rims on 18's? itd be a shame to throw out the brand new yoko's i got. ive done a lot of tire mounting and it seems to me that the sidewall would just flaten down a bit and compensate for the extra height and width.

i would say no. Tires are made for a specific wheel size.

maybe im just retarded... but when i talked to a person at les schwab they said that depending on the tire size... not the rim size... is what determins if they will fit. he made it seem like the tires i have on my rims which are stock and are 17X7.5 (correct me if im wrong) would fit some 18" rims, so maybe it all depends but i dont know i would consult a tire store before giving up completly. please post whatever you find out because im very interested

Its a big rubber donut you can strech it and contort it however you want.

Tires are sized like this 235/40/18

235 is the tire width in MM
40 is the height of the sidewall in relation to the width (as a percent)
and 18 is what wheel diameter it is intended for.

Im not saying it wont fit on the wheel, but tires are made for specific wheel sizes.. Tire rack goes so far as to say "It is critical that the tire and wheel diameters are always confirmed to match before the tire is mounted on the wheel."

you make a good point. yea i didnt think it would work with smaller tires i mean its fine with the jeep because thats putting 33's on 15x10 or 15x8 inch rims.
