Two q's on B5 S4 (one on coolant and one on ecu)
Hi
I have a 2001.5 B5 S4 and had two q's.
1. Last week when I started the car the coolant low/coolant temp high came on, I did not have any G12 on hand so added some distilled water and it seemed to work ok.
Q. Is this an ok long term solution, or should I flush and fill with G12? Also I know a few years aback could not mix G12 and Prestone etc but not sure if thats still the case.
2. My car is an auto transmission and thinking about chipping it (have 90k miles and I bought it a year back) however want to know
A. What is best chip and
B. Will chipping result in faster turbo failure and or lower mpg (esp significantly). My car only gives me about 21mpg or so if it falls too much likely not worth it.
Thanks
Shri

1. G12 and/or water. Nothing else. (IMHO) Mixing G12 with any other type of coolant is a gamble at best.
2. "To chip or not to chip..."
A. Asking what's the best chip is akin to asking what the best oil/spark plug/brand of gasoline. GIAC and APR seem to be two of the more popular choices.
B. A chipped car turbo is no more or less likely to fail than a non-chipped car turbo. It boils down to performing the proper maintenance. Abuse and neglect are the main causes of failure. Your mileage will pretty much depend on your driving style/habits. I would suspect that your mileage will go down slightly.

i would agree, go G12 only, but ... to be honest... ive been running prestone multi vehicle in my car for about 2 years with not a single issue. if something else is going on that is going to result in a cataclysmic meltdown its unbeknownst to me at this point. but always best to go with OEM spec.. proper warmup as stated above is key to turbo life. my car had 130ish thousand on OEM k03's and an APR flash, and those suckers kept pulling hard till it went under the knife.. APR is a safe, fun tune, and its really convenient to switch back and forth through the files. EPL or VAST is really nice (fastest and smoothest) but if youre going stage 3 anytime in the next year or so, just get an APR/GIAC ecu and enjoy it till bigger snails are on the way. try audizine classifieds, usually 2 or 3 ecus flashed for sale on there on a regular basis..
