Default Viggen...S4..hmm

hey guys im a former 2.7t A6 owner from this forum but have moved on to a MKV GTI(dont hate haha).

Figured i would get your thoguhts on this, while it may be biased any advice is worth taking. I was thinking of buying a second car that would be my weekend warrior i suppose, somethign fast and sharp looking that didnt need to be daily drivin. My first thoguht was always a B5 S4, but recently i was offered my brother in laws Viggen! another one of my dream cars. What would you rather have as a weekend car, and has anyone tested their limits against a Saab Viggen? what wee your mods and outcome if you have??

Hey, iv owned both a saab (not viggen) and the S4 so i have a little experience to base my decision off.

If i was in the market id take the S4 without question. Its AWD and 6-speed over front wheel drive and 5-speed. The S4 has more cylinders, larger displacement, and 2 turbos which translates into more power from the factory, and more potential for aftermarket tuning. The viggens B235R 2.3t is the same motor as my dads 9-5 and its no slouch from 40-110 but it dosnt have the power of the 2.7T.

As far as interior/exterior thats your opinion, both have heated & electric leather seats, cd player, etc. I think the S4 is sleeker, i like the look of my B5 S4 over the new s4s and the 2 Saab 9-5's in my driveway. Its a look that grows on you.

If your interested in performance and think you might want to tune it up or modify it the S4 is definitly better. There are many aftermarket companies making parts for the B5 S4 and new stuff is still being developed. Its an enthusiasts car. A chip and exhaust will do alot for the S4, with some new turbos 400HP is a piece of cake on the stock motor. I think the Viggen would be equally expensive to modify and in the end you would get less power, and it would still be FWD and torque steer all over the road.

Having said that the Viggen is rare car with <3000 made, its definitly quick and has alot of style(especially lightening blue). Because its being offered to you its definitly worth consideration. He will certainly not have any trouble selling it though if you decline the offer.

The s4 is faster in a race though if thats what your asking. Im glad your looking at some proper enthusiast cars though because you will love which ever one you get.

Thanks for the reply and a good one at that. I guess im mainly looking for a car thats fun to drive and to show a little muscle on the freeway when tested The comparison between your dads 9-5 and a viggen isnt valid though, its a different animal....

"Saab’s new high output turbocharged 2.3L 9-3 Viggen Coupe is even more fun than a flight simulator, thanks to its impressive turbo and torque combination. Starting with the engine block from the 9-5 series, replacing key internal components and integrating a larger turbocharger, Saab’s engine development team has endowed the Viggen with the ultimate expression of Saab turbo power."

also the fact thats its lighter, suspesion setup etc.

I have been in my A6 which was a stage 2- and fully understand the 2.7t platform (drove in a buddies stage 3 s4)but like the viggen to the 9-5, driving an A6 doesnt do an S4 justice.

Both require work to maintain and keep running strong, both respond to modding extremely well, both are expensive to mod/drive. I think the factor that separates them is like you said, putting power tot he ground. I guess ill have to ponder on the subject long and hard, they are both just awsome cars, and two totally different awsoime cars at that

weekend car...meaning you want to run it at the track? if thats the case, pass on both and get something like a honda s2000 that you can just throw into turns and has an awesome gearbox. if you want to cruise around, but be able to go like hell when you want, go audi.

I love the Audi inside and out. But for some reason I just can't force myself to like the interior of any Saab. It just looks blah, IMO though. The outside does look good. I think it would be cool to have a rare care like the Viggen, but nothing drives like the S4.

I wouldnt be looking for a track car, somethign to just have a little fun with around town. I would also have to give the interior to the S4! though i do like the Viggens also. I think all around the S is a better car, i guess its going to come down to price and availability at the time of purchase. I wouldnt want anything over 70K miles. What would you look to pay for an S4 in good condition with those miles?

A Viggen to me is a great car, especially in blue, but when compared to the Audi in my opinion it doesn't compare. It is an older look, with older mechanics and interior...plus the Audi has Quattro...thats all you really need to know!

But for a weekend warrior also look at (I know i'm going to get a lot of beef for this but....) a BMW M3...I loved my Audi...and the many S4s I've driven but handling-wise nothing imo beats a BMW, especially an M3! Im assuming you would probably be looking at an E36 M3, but even the 3 Series is amazing! My 330i ZHP would outhandle many cars, but i guess i am biased as well...but look at BMW for weekend warrior...

If you dont want the M, then definetly go with the S4!!!

Like Blue S4 says "4 rings, 4 doors, 4 wheels, and 4ced induction!!!!" Thats all you really need to know!!!
