What kills these motors the most?
What kills these Motors the most (I have an 01 S4). Is it due to excessive heat or what? I have been reading that the turbo's sometimes go or other such problems. Is cooling even an issue on these cars?
Theres list of common issues in the FAQ somewhere. MOST issues are smallish things. generally the most serious problem you will encounter with a b5 is blowing turbos, It dosnt really kill the engine, you just buy new turbos. The stock k03's just tend to fail, especially if you decide you want more performance out of your car (chip!). Thats why we replace them with K04's, garrets and hybrids. The extra couple hundred HP is just a side effect
but like every car anything could happen, its not common to completely kill a motor though

On the turbos note, one thing that really helps kill those is to drive it hard when first starting up. Wait til your oil temp is around 170 degrees (first notch on the gauge), and then give the car a cool down time after driving it hard. Or just buy a turbo timer and that will do that for you.

From what I've heard, the 2.7t engine is like bulletproof. People have been racing it without changing any internals and the engine just keeps going and going.
