its a complete waste of a gear for regular driving. it has no good range of speed per rpm. ya ya i know theres times when 1st gear is a necessity but 80% of the time it just pisses me off. my rant for the night...

 

I'd agree; I wish they would have elongated 1st gear a bit more and closed up 2nd and 3rd. It could have been a great close ratio tranny but 1-3rd kind of ruins it.

 

Put me down for 1st being a horribly useless gear, have to shift out before 15mph and cant downshift into it when you want. Don't get me started on that syncro either.

 

i know its probably not a good thing to do but i find myself doing a lot of second gear starts.

 

bye bye clutch.... you gotta be slippin the hell outta it or bogging the **** outta your engine to be doing second gear starts.....

 

i hate my first gear. but for other reasons. the 1-2 shift collar exploded while drag racing. i have no first gear now, and barely have second. anyone want to donate for a new tranny??=-p

 

I'll have in a few days a tranny for sale with under 70xxx miles, for 750 plus shipping. Tranny shifts great. Bought a used motor with tranny for cheap, for my K04 build, and will not need the other tranny. Anyone in need?

 

The Allroad 01E 1st-3rd is much better.

 

Just read up on it; never knew there were so many variations of the 01E in the first place.

 

There is even a 01A with better gearing which also has a 4.11 final. That is the transmission I will be trying next in my A4.
