Default winter tires?

I have an extra set of 17" rims from my old car that I just repainted graphite. They dont have any tires on them and I think they would make a good set of winter rims. The problem is I really dont know any good sites to get winter tires. I want to compare to what the tire stores around my town have. Most will compete with a good price I find. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Big amen on the stopping part Murphy.
Its messy up here in Midland Michigan too. They actually sent everyone home early from work because the road were a mess.

Bummer is that I am still rolling on summer tires. I will likely be shopping for some winter treads tomorrow since over the summer I grew quite addicted to stopping and I almost didnt get my fix today.

OK no discussion of performance winter tires would be compltete without mentioning Vredstein Wintracks (Extreme). IMO they are hands down the best high performance winter tire out there - and are particualrly good on our AWD S4s. I've had nothing but great experiences with them at all speeds in ice, snow wet, etc. And in fact I had my Vreds on when I ran the Dragon in October - in the dry and in the wet - and they were fantastic. A must to check out. And Murphy-boy - if you live in Holland I'm suprised you aren't already onto these tires - they are a Dutch company!
